  • For sure!! I just assumed every instance had to end in death for some reason. I just remember eventually seeing someone on tv not die after falling down stairs and i was stunned, lol.

  • The problem here is that you're under the assumption that this isn't all just intentional. Sure you could ask them if they don't want this why did they do that--but the whole act was just to pacify you while they're already onto the next thing. Everything they do is for their personal enrichment no matter the excuse. Also they won't have to answer any of these types of questions because they have Newmax and their ilk in the press room nowadays and they are far from giving a shit about anything remotely close to that.

    This has basically been my experience as a Democrat-voter for years. "Our guys finally made it in, now we'll finally see those changes they've been talking about" followed by crickets for 4 years 😬

  • Thank you so much for taking the time and consideration to share this info! I think this is a bit bigger of a project than i may have considered initially. I'll keep your suggestions in mind moving forward, and I'll make sure to temper expectations for my buddy as well. I was under the impression that Linux works nicely with Reaper but i don't have any experience playing with (or even attempting to configure) any of that stuff yet... I've definitely got some more research to do! Thanks again for the informative response.

  • That's the thing--the actual purpose of the appliances hasn't changed at all. Every "advancement" is typically proprietary tech made to help comply with energy and water/gas usage standards--or to add perceived value through some half-baked gimmicks. For instance, dishwashers use smaller pumps run for longer periods of time to perform the same amount of work a larger more powerful pump could handle (in many cases a single pump sufficed for a dishwasher--one rotational direction for wash, opposite direction for drain)... I'm totally on board with energy efficiency but the laughably cheap/shitty tech they use to those ends kinda blunt the effectiveness of the energy saving measures (since replacing parts--or more likely entire dishwashers when those pumps fail--is a less energy-saving process than having a stronger, more durable pump that draws an extra amp or 2)

  • As pointed out elsewhere around these comments, this looks like another classic example of enshittification. Just like everything that's invented, it often starts out with a fairly solid design--it couldn't succeed without that. Once the success is captured, they can start dissecting the design and figure out what parts can be made with cheaper materials (common example: replacing metal w/plastic) and/or cheaper tech. From that point it's iterations of further cuts to material and tech until it's the cheapest, flimsiest version that can still function well enough to outlast the warranty. I've been in my field long enough (appliance repair) to see generations come and go and it often runs that route. Sometimes design flaws get fixed during the process, but rarely does the product itself get better or more durable in the long run.

  • If there's anything I've learned about Leon, Trump, and the other neofascists we're bombarded with--it's that they really really don't like anyone questioning or disagreeing with them. It's telling, because if they truly were confident in their words and deeds, they would have nothing to fear. Someone questioning them should be a chance for them to educate everyone on the reasons why their ideas are good... but instead it goes directly to ad hominems, bans/removals, etc. They want to think they're brilliant, but they also don't want to be questioned since they don't want to risk getting dunked on in the public arena and lose credibility (but they also really don't want to be faced with facts proving them wrong, their tremendous ego can't handle it)
