    See for example, Hungary. The government introduced "CSOK" a few years back, which was basically a "start your family" free money kit - if you marry and have X kids within Y years of taking part in this program, you get to keep the money for free, no need to pay it back, otherwise it turns into a loan (with sub-market rates mind you so it's worth taking even if you don't want kids).

    The amount per family was fixed, at IIRC 20 million HUF, or around $60k USD.

    Guess what happened?

    Property prices shot up, practically overnight, by that amount.

  • I have an annoying neighbour. This annoying neighbour plays loud music throughout the day and sometimes the night too.

    This annoying neighbour also happens to have a wireless charging stand with a built in BT speaker. A BT speaker that requires no authentication, no pairing, no nothing. You can just connect to it.

    This annoying neighbour has been suffering from random bouts of Mariah Carey at the most inopportune times - such as 3am - at max volume. I've even programmed a Bluetooth controller to keep connecting to it and playing the song at random intervals if it gets paused or the volume reduced. And most recently I've been working on figuring out a way to detect when the neighbour plays loud music so I can finally connect the two events in a very obvious way so they finally stop.

    You think hearing it for two months is bad? Try being my annoying neighbour. Doesn't matter if it's July, or February, or September, if it's morning, evening, or barely past midnight, he's getting his Mariah fix, Careyd over the soundwaves.

    I'm currently using Interstellar. Got any recommendations for iOS that can handle Lemmy, mBin AND PieFed, while not over-filtering NSFW? Interstellar doesn't seem to have any proper toggles aside from "covering up sensitive content", which I've already had disabled.

    I find that my ADHD gets less in the way when there's someone "observing" me while I do the task, leading me to much less random trailing off. They don't actually have to do anything but be present or maybe talk to you.

    I do some of my best cleanings when my mum calls. Guaranteed hour long chat where I can be actually productive because even though it's just a voice call, I feel judged enough to start doing something about it.

    The only thing MAGA actually seems to genuinely care for - aside from their constant need to feed their rage and despicable beliefs like racism - is being against paedophilia. They might not care enough about kids to actually offer their tax money to ensure all of them gets to eat, gets proper education, but at the very least a majority of them doesn't want powerful men to rape them. Which, I guess, is a small win?

    Therefore anything that is truly damaging to Trump will be kid-diddling related.
