  • I have a pair of Fairbuds, I've had them about a little over a year. I've been meaning to write a review but I have not come around to It yet. But the short and sweet is, They are neat. I love the repair ability of the hardware but they feel like a "beta" product due to the software/firmware. Within 2 months of getting them I had sent them for warranty service. That after doing all the troubleshooting available without a second pair available.

    The reason for the warranty service was that the left earbud just stopped responding, this after; randomly disconnecting, complaining about low battery(even with a brand new battery), randomly lowering volume until completely silent(only the left earbud, device volume did not change).

    Came back after they replaced left earbud, now it worked but still have the same issues before, except now it responds. I want to say that they work most of the time. But things bugg out way to often to say that with confidence. I'm pretty sure all the issues are software or firmware relates but since no new firmware has been released since I got them I can't say for sure. I would not recommend them, based on my experience to someone who isn't in it for the support of the fairphone project.

  • Ouf.. I do that sometimes when writing guides or argumentative articles/texts. As a "this is relevant now for for this, but I will explain further later" or "this is relevant now, and I must explain it now so everything makes sense". Especially if the subject does not require a section of its own, but its understanding is a prerequisite to understanding the wider point.

  • I've seen enough posts related to etymology or historical use of words where they, either misrepresent the facts to fit a narrative or just make shit up, that I try to look it up my self. I also find etymology fascinating so that helps.

    In this case they are absolutely right.

    Both Mr and. Mrs,ms are derived from master and mistress (teachers) and both of those words stem from the Latin word Magister.

    Edit: fun fact the English verb stick is the same word as the noun stick and comes from the same origin the Germanic word stik which also meant a piece of wood and to pierce/adhere or sharp. But wait it's older than that the Latin word stigare also means pierce. And share the same ancestry, namely indo-european. Turns out we humans have been talking about sticks for a long time.

  • I have a 2015 13" Macbook Air with 4gb ram, and a new battery running, Mint with i3 wm and except for a few very unoptimised webpages I don't experience any significant lagg when browsing. streaming 1920x1080 video without issues(the screen resolution is 1440x900 so no need for more) sure I only use it for writing on the go and minor surfing, anything heavier like video editing or Blender I do on my main desktop or my lenovo legion. This whole - anything less than 16gb ram is garbage in current year. Does not take into account that a lot of consumers and middle managers actually don't do anything heavy on their computers.

  • App images, love the fact that they exist thou sometimes graphically jarring. Sure.. ever only used them for two different applications. Both pretty niche. And not available in my distro repo or flathub. Not advocating for it to become something universal,or anything but they seem pretty distro agnostic. Which I'm guessing is easier to maintain? Or not? Not a developer.

  • I do some self promotion, although I try to; 1: only post in relevant forums. 2: also engage outside of my own posts an then not talk about said posts.(this time is an exception but its kind of a meta discussion.)

    Due to the nature of the fedivers what I post on mastodon and pixelfed might get federated on to Lemmy, which unfortunately might give the appearance of spamming, I'm aware of this but I don't see a way around that. And lastly. I don't think my videos on Peertube would get any views unless I post them outside of peertube since there is no real algorithm or good discovery functions across the instances. But I'm open to being in the wrong here.

  • Thanks you for letting me know that my interpretation wasn't completely off base.

    Well I have an idea and its a bit archaic but it just might work. Local homegrown news bulletins. Like how punk rock bands and other subcultures back in the day spread around. Registers and news, and compilations of cool sites you and your group of friends or "club" have found. The old internet had loads of sites or BBS's that were link lists.

    It doesn't have to be janky paper magazine's. But communities need to engage more in genuine material and sites. Remember happy tree friends? No algorythm spread that. Kids did! Same thing with meatspin and all those crazy sites and content. Word of mouth is crazy powerful. Like take peertube for example, finding content you like there ain't as easy as on YouTube. But if you in a group / forum honestly recomend something or someone you found, chances are someone like minded that didn't know of it, now finds it. But we can't, on the other hand, go around and spam everything we find.

    So monthly bulletins of content, sites etc in a forum would be my 2 cents.
