It's never really about protecting children. It's about making sure the government can monitor everything you do online and tie it back to your real-world identity. Encrypted channels are to be eliminated. The government wants to hear every word and see every action. And age verification is an excuse to demand ID.
Traditionally this kind of surveillance has focused on left-wing and environmentalist movements, anything that challenges the interests of capital. Today it will be the same, but with a side helping of transphobia and the looming threat of all this material falling into the hands of fascists within a few years, something that everyone but the terminally dull Keir Starmer can see coming.
Following their link to LiveKit's blog, it seems LiveKit provides a real-time communication stack with adaptive video encoding. So they're using it to handle multiple video streams over connections of varying quality. I don't think it's mainly about AI, even though that's LiveKit's focus.
It goes beyond flip-flopping. It looks like a party of calculated self-sabotage. It appears Schumer organizes votes to ensure there are just enough dissenters that he and others can pretend to want the right thing but hey, what can they do, unfortunately they just didn't get enough votes. Every time. All that changes is who they pick to be on dissent duty.
If they can murder anyone in the street on camera and kidnap anyone to a hidden torture/death camp that no one is allowed to inspect, and no judge or politician or cop is able to stop them or bring them to justice, then they effectively already took away your rights.
“You and your office must restore the rule of law, support ICE officers, and bring an end to the chaos in Minnesota,” Bondi wrote in a letter to Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz (D) obtained by multiple outlets. “Fortunately, there are common sense solutions to these problems that I hope we can accomplish together.”
In the letter, Bondi pressed Walz to hand over information about the state’s welfare programs amid mounting scrutiny over a massive fraud scandal, get rid of immigration sanctuary policies and let the Department of Justice see voter rolls “to confirm that Minnesota’s voter registration practices comply with federal law.”
Funny how she doesn't notice the gang of thugs going door to door kidnapping people, disappearing people, denying people emergency medical care, beating people, murdering people on camera in broad daylight, and so on. She really should look there if she's worried about rule of law.
But of course she isn't. It's becoming clear that this administration is building lists of their opponents and those they consider genetically or racially inferior, and when they have the forces in place they plan to start eliminating them. They're making lists of trans people, autistic people, Jews, protestors, and Democratic voters, among others. They're not planning to use these lists to uphold anything people would recognize as the rule of law.
They always manage to arrange for this to happen. It's a strategy. You have to look a bit like an opposition so people will still donate and support you, but you actually want things to go the same way the Republicans do. So you make sure there are always just enough dissenters to defeat you in the vote, while the rest of you get to pose as frustrated people of principle.
Funding bill let Democrats make a statement without creating a standoff.
That's a very optimistic way of saying "lets Democrats make a feeble token gesture of mild disagreement while still going along wholly with the fascist program."
This joke of a man does not need to be listened to. Kick him out of Canada because he's a waste of resources.
