  • This seems to be a common occurrence in their home American market, if what you read online is true. There's people constantly complaining about diarrhea after Taco Bell. All Americans. I guess their international franchise rules are different and better controlled.

    Do we see such innovative rebellions in, say, art? Or literature? Architecture? The sciences?

    I never thought that music went through a similar rebellion. At least not in the matters of complexity. But it makes sense. I'm very familiar with the art & architecture one. Modernism is one of the most revolutionary movements in human history.

    Here's one more idea - is this person present or not during the conversation

    Edit to expand on the idea:We can have 3 pronouns

    • Person participates in the conversation
    • Person doesn't participate but is somehow involved with speakers and conversation (like talking about a friend, or a customer that bothered you at work)
    • Talking about someone in an abstract sense. Like when writing about a celebrity, or a biography, or describing someone's life (even if a friend)

  • Linguistics, just like in our world. The purpose of pronouns is to reduce repetition in speech and writing.

    Additional gendered aspect is there for easier disambiguation between multiple people's pronouns when mentioned in the same context.

  • Well there was period where I changed cars every 2 years. For a total of 3 cars, and then I didn't need one any more. Not the most egregious example but I did like changing them. It's like any other toy, it's easy to get hooked on upgrades and trying out new models.

  • Cars. Basically every new model is always online, connected, and streaming who knows what data. Not to mention the awful UX of touchscreens.

    Why should a car be connected to the internet? The infotainment is justified but should be controllable. And this includes EVs. Just because your wheels are moved by electric motors it doesn't automatically mean the entire car is "tech" and must be connected to everything and anything.

    Archiving however is a different story. I burn all my collections to archival grade blurays. As a history nerd, I'm painfully aware how much was lost, and I'm doing my part to give future historians something to work with.

  • I'm not sure he actually fleeced the big buyers. One of the main "problems" in paying a bribe is how to present the payment as something legitimate.

    If you can maybe just innocently "invest" in some crypto scheme. Totally legitimate investment, just so happened it failed, oh well.

  • The whole point of influencers is that you watch someone experience something instead of you.Either because you can't afford it, you want to make sure before buying, it's risky, or you just like experiencing the world through others.

    How can possibly AI do any of that?

    AI influencers are reshaping social media with digital faces that look real, act consistent, and attract millions of followers.

    I sincerely doubt this, unless they count AI followers. Which wouldn't surprise me.
