    This only happens in movies. You seem to be imagining some kind of apocalyptic leftist purge.

    At the moment your family is "detained" you quite simply do not know what the outcome is going to be. Are they just going to be interviewed, and released in an hour, or are they never going to be seen alive again. A violent confrontation, no matter the outcome, dramatically increases the likelihood of the latter.

    Sometimes caring for people means considering their well-being before your own ego.

    If you don't agree, god help anyone you ever "care for".

    I don't think the term "bad person" is helpful in this context. No I don't think that everyone living in a country with a bad government is a bad person.

    However, citizens of any country are accountable for the actions of their government.

    For example, Australians of today are accountable for the human rights abuses perpetrated against First Australians even though we may not have been alive when that was occurring. I'm not a "bad person" because of it, but nor can I wash my hands of it.

    Over the last 2 years I've developed a fairly deeply held frustration and anger at "Americans" due to the behavior of the Trump administration. The entire world is bearing the consequences of their shit decisions.

    I acknowledge that no individual American is responsible for any of this, and many are opposed to the Trump administration. However, I'm still angry and frustrated at America generally and it's very difficult to separate that from my feelings toward an anonymous American I interact with in the fediverse.

    When the guy said "I've already amswered", ossoff should have e quoted his answer and said "your response was not an answer, it was a refusal to answer".

    Then asked whether his answer would be theatrical because it contradicted Trump, or because it contradicted the electoral college.

    That said, it's easy to come up with witty retorts here in the comfort of my arm chair, ossoff did great. I enjoy watching them avoid this question. They're pathetic.

    whisper.cpp is an opensource implementation, although I'm not certain exactly how open.

    when you're providing context rather than instructions the tendency for a model to hallucinate or run off on a tangent is minimal, because the context you're providing has it's own cohesion.

    There's a locally hostable model called whisper that is very impressive.

    My plumber uses speech to text to send text messages all day.

    Late Night Linux guy says he uses it for microsoft teams quite a bit.

    You're only partially correct about input speed. If you want to dictate an email then yes you need to think about each word you want to say and the order in which to say them. Coupled with an LLM that problem is diminished because you can just kind of have a conversation with the LLM and tell it to draft an email.

  • I'm not really into it but one of the guys on late night linux podcast, generally resistant to LLMs and shiny new things, is a fan of speech to text for general computing, as in every input field in the OS should support speech. In a recent episode he said that he believes it to be the way of the future.
