  • You can pretty safely assume that both things are true, they are lying about details, and that houties probably at least made an attempt. First so they can jerk themselves off about how powerful and useful their thingy is, and at the same time how only they can be allowed to make them because they are good and responsible. And terrorists would use commonly available tools.

  • Actually everyone can just ignore it existence and move on. There will be people that use it, it won't become big distro, and will die in a few years, it doesn't deserve attention that it gets.

    I also think that story and part mentioned in the post about both hyperland and vaxry is mischaracteristic (and drew de vault calling other people weird is weird in itself) that was blown out of proportions later. I don't use nor plan to use it because it doesn't meet my requirements, nor care for the guys views.

  • Go to archlinux archive, download required version (or look it up in local pacman cache), install it with pacman -U ..., add package to IgnorePkg in /etc/pacman.conf.

    just move from it on the next computer, it is not in any way more 'stable' than regular arch, and it had a lot of problems both historically and has a lot of them still.

  • For regular k8s a few years ago (in my own tests) it hovered around 500-600 megabytes, and some cpu as well (can't say how much would it use on machines this old) so the thing that does nothing but controls what will run on a machine consumes like 1/8th of ram. Also their infra sounds as static as it gets and machines themselves are not pets - they are family members at this point, what would the benefits of k8s be?

  • tldr: their infra that interfaces directly with accelerator uses really old computers and they are unsupported in newer versions of rhel. Only those machines are affected by these good news.

    Personally, this looks weird, they are planning to run like 20 years old machines for another 10 to save money on replacing them while at the same time they are planning (or already in the process) migration to k8s?

  • I believe that it is some fuckup and they don't know where exactly problem is and while they are looking for a way to fix it they've created plausible lie. When they'll fix it or believe that it's fixed there would be a public announcement like 'we heard the community and reversed our decision' and users will be happy.
