Honestly 3 ports is enough. And you have the separate MagSafe port too, which means all 3 are typically free. I can’t think of a good reason to have 3 devices regularly hooked up to a Mac laptop. Mouse, keyboard, external hard drive? And mouse/keyboard can be wired to each other and/or wireless?
It definitely CAN be cheaper but seems like a good fraction of people choose to live on the high hog and dump a ton of money into their vans. Also there’s just a ton of anxiety needing to move around constantly. Where are you exactly where that’s not a worry?
Oddly enough ECC used to be quite common for consumer hardware…I had an old Mac desktop in the late 90s/early 00s with ECC memory. But at some point it was decided that consumers don’t want to pay the extra $ for error-free RAM and mobos largely dropped support.
Edit: reading up on it the G5 (which I had) required ECC memory
As the OP stated, the low velocity cases are not causing deadly accidents. And you can’t drive by wire at high speed (too much latency). So I doubt it’s affecting the stats in any meaningful way.
Honestly I much prefer they have a human as a backup than not.
Hard to swoop in with massive tariffs. The few players that remain will just charge a lot more…it’ll become the rich lucky few who can afford their own hardware.
