  • Seems like a legit mistake. Phones get bin sorted at distribution warehouses, either a display model accidentally got returned from a store and binned in gen pop, or an incorrectly provisioned one slipped thru production. All display case devices are probably scheduled for an auto wipe and reprovision on a weekly schedule to keep them fresh and snappy for potential customers.

    I've seen way worse supplier fuckups happen in multiple other industries...

  • Yes, but think about it like you're a Chinese manufacturing engineer with only basic electronics education. You COULD do that design, build out the pcb, custom tool it to fit your plastic housing, etc etc.... Or you could go to the manufacturer down the street who already makes pre designed voltage reg MCU's on a board and spend like, 20 minutes in an IDE to code the specific voltage levels and button presses.

    When production volume and turnaround time is the only things that matter in this shovel waste crap, "wasting" silicon is less expensive financially than building out the optimal solution.

    If you don't buy low quality "chunk" tuna the fishy taste is usually not an issue. Buy "solid" canned tuna as it's usually nicer cuts of white meat rather than whatever ground up leftovers comes in the cans of "chunk". And it's only like 15c a can more.

    Canning companies managing to market the level of meat quality as a simple difference in form has got to be one of the sneakiest marketing rug pulls ever accomplished.
