The majority of standard users only need a web browser nowadays. I'm not sure if it can view/sign PDFs and send print jobs, but I'm sure it can, and all of this covers the 99% use case for a household device.
I'm the tech guy of the family. Linux nerd, GrapheneOS on my phone, blah blah blah. If my mom needed a new laptop I would 100% recommend the Neo and be done with it. No frills, no bullshit. Shit I want to pick one up just to play around with it because it's CHEAP, even though I dont like Apple's ecosystem.
I'm not sure how it would fare as a college device(test taking, remote screen sharing, proprietary programs, etc) but even for middle schoolers and high schoolers this should cover most, if not all, bases.
I really don't get it either. Like it's some impossible task to just stop using certain apps or some shit.
I don't use social media(except Lemmy, I guess, if you count that(I don't)). The only notifications I get on my phone are from texts. I haven't touched Tiktok since 2019. I don't scroll YouTube shorts 24/7.

Personally I love vim, it's just powerful enough for me for my bash scripts. Anything more complicated then I'm using a proper IDE or something more simple I'm using Kate or whatever graphical editor for my DE.
Nah, just looked it up. Recording mode is activated by pressing "q" and allows you to record your inputs for a macro. So if you forget to do ":" and just press "q" you'll enter Recording mode and have to press "q" again to exit Recording and then you can do ":q" or whatever you needed.
But if you don't know what you pressed and don't know how to exit Recording mode then you'll be stuck. I've seen coworkers get stuck in this from time to time.
We're a RHEL shop so our vim version may be different, but Recording mode doesn't let us exit vim directly, we have to exit Recording mode and then exit vim. Again, might just be our setup.
I'm lower level(sysadmin) but our devs use "AI", but it's more of algorithmic pattern matching with specific data sets we have.
We don't have a use case for it primarily.
I use it to get a rough outline for bash, python, and ansible scripts for automation. Still lots of refining and fitting things into our environment, but it's helped me tremendously get a jump start with a draft. It's like I get writer's block lol.
I have obsidian and tried using it, but my personal workflow for my homelab just doesn't...work with it? Idk, it's just easier to throw it into a private wiki.
I'm not a programmer, but I have my dotfiles and bash scripts I like to keep in private repos. I just moved my dotfiles over to Codeberg, gonna do my scripts here soon...
But been relatively painless. I can see how bigger and public projects will take some coordination and planning but...it's probably worth it?

My local registrar just has a box out front and I've dropped off ballots there at 3am before. It's locked, but it looks like a USPS envelope drop off box, but it's the registrar's. So just shove them in the slot. And then I get a text the following day or two saying it's been collected and counted.
No one checks anything. I've even gone one time where it was drive-through style and I just rolled my window down and gave them to one of the dozen or so poll workers.
As long as the envelope is sealed and signed properly by the voter, I don't see a reason it'd be contested. And when it all gets counted if there's a discrepancy then it'll get flagged and that individual who signed it will be contacted.
Been doing the drop offs for years now, for all elections. Never had a problem.
You should keep an eye on Gnome. Their recent release, Gnome 50, just introduced parental controls to limit access to programs and they're looking to implement website access as well.
I don't like Gnome, but my kid's first PC will have Gnome on it now because of these new features, which I greatly appreciate
