  • You're not understanding what standing on the shoulders of giants means. Locally hosted open weights models are free/libre and puts you in control of your data. Since we're talking about hilariously stupid.

  • Why should one bother?

  • The fact that you immediately descend into ad hominems indicates that you're a just another troll that should be posting from hexbear.

  • One day when you're stuck in traffic, it will be all horsecarts. Which are also capable of bringing a drunk driver home.

  • Hope these bots are paying customers, then.

  • Someone mentioned that, but it doesn't have to be off-grid. My 2 kWp system is grid-tied and if I would start running a lical LLM it would be an incentive to add another couple.

  • What the fuck are ethical sources? Where is compensation and consent when I unapologetically use pirate archives of books abd papers? You people crack me up.

  • I see no problem if I can snag some generic Instinct accelerators, and a server to go. I've already got half a rack full.

  • Self-hosted LLMs are neat and private, if you (already) have the hardware/budget and some cheap (solar PV) surplus juice to drive it.

  • My AI will talk to your AI.

  • I still use an nvidia shield tv, but never with voice. Should use an open source launcher but for these few apps I use it doesn't bother me enough yet.

  • No, Pixel.

  • I only buy hardware which supports installing free/libre operating systems and applications.

  • That's what a breakthrough means. But obviously all the funding is burned up in more DCs with incremental iteration on the same design. So the bubble has to pop for real innovation. But I think this coming AI winter will be permanent, as things are very visibly falling apart.

  • The current everything bubble is too big to be bailed out. It will take down with it everything. Including the value of currency.

  • Not could. It's a mathematical certainty that it will. Barring a breakthrough miracle -- fat chance.

  • You have to admit that the West is collapsing ahead of Asia. China will be also falling, of course.

  • Best advertisement for chinese cars. Not that they needed one...

  • Still nobody build a unified memory model with HBM. I would buy Apple hardware, then. If I can put Linux on it.

Perhaps I can buy a used Instict with generics science acceleration, once the smoke clears. And add a couple solar kWp to my capacity.
