  • I know this isn't going to be popular here, but I do really worry that people who take this approach will end up hamstringing their opportunities in life.

I agree that AI is over hyped, easily misused and being forced into things it's not necessarily very helpful for....but that's also what it was like when the internet came around.

I think people would be wise to familiarise themselves with the tools available if only to hedge their bets....you can't find a software engineering job right now that doesn't want experience with AI tools, and if it's as successful as many think it will be - you will find most jobs will expect proficiency with AI in the same way they expect proficiency with computers.

It might go the other way and become irrelevant of course. But right now I dont think the majority of people are informed enough to know which way it will go and are thus just responding emotionally instead.

  • Interesting. And what was the how back then?

  • The money to be made is on predicting when, not it it's going to burst. Otherwise we'd all be betting the house on it.

  • Having just gone through something...I can attest to the fact that when you see no end to the pain, the mental anguish is immense. For some people that means a couple of points.

For me when asked, I always think "could it be worse?" and having never had my balls trampled by a herd of elephants, or been hanged, drawn and quartered....I could never give a 10.

  • AI can do that.

  • My first foray into doing anything remotely close to programming was substituting things in other people's TCL scripts. I had no idea what I was doing...but i was somehow getting results.

I curently have no idea how this person did this, and so as a bare minimum id have to learn that in order to know where to start replacing keywords. Maybe it's completely trivial, but the fact remains I do not know and so I would have to learn something.

So yes, even if they're "just replacing keywords" they're still learning something. Even if you consider it trivial or mundane.

  • I agree entirely

  • You know they're say the same about you right? Verbatim.

  • I've not run into any of these issues....but as I went from iPhone to samsung perhaps its all just a matter of perspective. Perhaps the Pixel is superior.

I check each year what the reviews are saying and the Samsung always seem to edge out on top for what I want - a large device (i get the Ultra) with a premium build and great camera. I also have a samsung watch so the integrations work quite nicely. I found the google wallet on the watch constantly asked for my pin while the samsung wallet only would the first time since I put it on. Oh and you have to unlock your device to use Google Wallet as your travel payment...with samsung wallet I can just tap and go which is much more preferable to me as it means my eyes are up and paying attention to my world, not looking at my phone unlocking it.

  • That's not evidence. That's just making stuff up to fit a narrative of your choosing.

I'm no fan of billionaires either, but they do plenty of evil without us having to just make shit up. That only serves to dilute your (our) credibility.

  • Convinced by what evidence?

  • I dont get the "server" vs "individual" support levels? Im an individual and I have a server...but presumably everyone buying immich has a server? Otherwise it's pointless? Or is it expected that I buy a server package, plus an individual package for each and every user?

I know it's OSS and so any and all donations are voluntary - just the naming here confuses me.

  • S3 seems like a really expensive way to backup personal data. Are you doing it to achieve the offsite backup?

I currently dont have an offsite and im weighing up having a NAS at my parents place.

  • That looks strangely like a long range rifle that c would be well served putting up a prepared defence or neutralising an unsuspecting target. Neither of which are aligned with home defence.

For home defence I want a shotgun. High lethality that doesn't go bouncing down the road looking for another victim.

  • Just the good ones.

  • Presumably someone grabbed him and then they grd the rope through and round. Adding more rope and belts as more folks arrived.

  • Thank you that's very helpful! I'm pretty handy with software so not troubled by that, but I am lazy outside of work so I'll likely follow your envision advice! But still sounds like a fair bit to do so I suspect I'll kick it down the road till WMR finally goes.

    Thanks again!

  • How are you getting on with VR? I have a Reverb G2 and if I can play Elite and DCS on Linux I'm basically sold at this point.

I really want a new headset but nothing beats the G2 right now, without giving money to Meta which I refuse to do.

  • Lists are also very handy!
