Just a corn on the internet.

Lemmy stores DMs in plain text. If that's an issue for you, use the matrix contact @einkorn:tchncs.de for encrypted chats.

  • I am sorry (not), but I am speaking to you from Germany via an Austrian server. So:

    Muh freduum of speek!

    Did I do this correctly?

  • Hey, don't disregard the value of scrap metal!

  • Given the enormous amount of metadata companies collect about us and the obvious connections of fabric to yourself, you are surprised that LinkedIn got it at least partially right?

  • By the way, I have no idea why the algorithm showed me this job.

No need to stay in the closet, Squiddy! After all it's one of the true manly arts.

Full disclosure, I got no idea whether Squid is man or woman or anything in between.

  • Well, looking at the Corning company, they specialize in glass wares/technology in general of which heat-resistant kitchenware is a sector as well as bulletproof glass but also mirrors for astronomy. So this seems more like a parallel than sequential development.

There are some interesting cases of companies who have never before even dealt with large scale production suddenly getting awarded military contracts. But tasking some of the largest machine manufacturers of the country such as Ford and Singer with production of military gear during wartime seems hardly surprising.

And I don't even question the overall narrative of companies doing whatever makes a quick buck. I was more interested in the specific example of a tea company of all places production military goods.

  • I think Charlie Hebdo comics are often in bad taste and more shock value than critic, but that's no legitimate reason to massacre people.

More than the attack on Charlie Hebdo itself, which I can "understand" in the twisted sense of a religious fanatic, it was the overall ruthlessness of the attackers that shocked me. I remember vividly seeing a video of one of the attackers walking up to a wounded police officer and executing him at point-blank range.

  • Such as?

  • Spontaneous ideas for troubleshooting:

    • Disable the stepper motors, slide the head to the position it would be in when printing this section, and check for any irregularities in the rail or belt.
    • Clean the hotend.
    • Try to print the part again, see if there is damage at the same section.
  • Well, illegal slavery is always an option. The opportunities for legal slavery are minimal, though.

  • Allowing them to be paid fairly shouldn't be a big deal but it absolutely is.

Not many people realize it but slavery is still legal in the US. Convicted inmates can be forced to work as part of their punishment.

  • I have done SLA before, so I know what I am getting into. A washing/curing station is definitely on my list as well. Since most manufacturers seem to offer stations with their printers, I guess that's what I'd go with or are there noticable differeneces as well between vendors?

  • TYPO3, Drupal, Joomla and others come to mind, but these are fully fledged CMS and not as end-user friendly as WordPress.

  • Over here in Germany using a shopping cart "costs" between 50 Cents and 2 €. You have to put a coin in them to release the chain by which they are attached to eachother. Of course when you return the cart and close the lock you get your coin back.

Little metal plates without monetary value but still the right size are common marketing gifts by companies and organizations yet they still provide mostly the same unconscious effect of "I want my coin back".

Of course there are also people who use little gadgets to unlock the carts without putting anything in but I wouldnt know about such things...

  • More like "I do two jobs but only get paid for one".

  • Don't get me wrong, I also hate Monopolies, but a company exercising their rights on their own platform? Fine by me. Just don't use their platform.
