  • For those people you want to know that you care enough about them to wish a good morning, but not enough to type out the full words

  • Terrible. But I got over it.

  • How dare you poop without supurrvision

  • If I didn’t spend my money as a kid it might be called upon.

My friend's family was like that growing up. Use it or lose it. From what I can tell he had a hard time growing out of it, but seems to be doing better now. He was already used to being poor, but raising his own family was a new level of awareness and probably his "lightbulb moment". Finding a decent job certainly helped, too.

  • Struggling taught me the value of saving. I was still in highschool and working for minimum wage when I moved out on my own, and that was when I stopped wasting money. I was more concerned with securing my next meal. Experiencing it at that age absolutely influenced my habits into adulthood, to the point I agree about calling it a personal success - that is to say I'm still poor, but nowhere near as screwed as I would be if I had to learn that lesson today.

  • Saved money from my first jobs. I mostly spent it on CDs which are nice to have a collection of, but kinda useless to me now. Ultimately it doesn't make much difference because it wasn't a lot of money in the grand scheme, but if I had invested it early it could have maybe made my life better now.

  • Green olives. Preferably stuffed with garlic.

  • 1984 and Brave New World

  • Basketball. Same everything, except you have to dribble the ball with your forehead.

  • Happy cake day. Wash it down with a nice cold can of

  • Tarzan

Animorphs game from the Animorphs website, back when the internet was new

    Chess Master 5000

  • Yup, it can add some nice colour, but besides that there isn't much point. Thanks for the celery validation.

  • Raw celery. Most people seem to say it has no flavour. To me it smells and tastes similar to vodka and makes me sick to even think about. It's also kinda squeaky on the teeth which is unacceptable. Cooked in a soup or whatever is fine.

Cabbage rolls. Specifically that combination of ingredients has made me sick by smelling it in the past, though it's not as bad now as an adult, and they do taste good. Cooked/boiled cabbage in any other context never bothered me.

Pickled onions. I love onions and can eat them raw, but I couldn't even finish one mini pickled one due to the resemblance to stomach acid, taste and smell.

  • Long story short, the "!" version will take the person clicking the link to their home instance's version of that community, keeping them logged in and able to subscribe/interact. It's much nicer to deal with sharing communities that way.

  • Thank you. I'm a mega-loner hermit and where I'm going is a very small town. If there's a place for me in the community there I'll give it a shot, but even if not, I still think I'll be a lot better off than I am now.

  • Moving far away from the place I have lived almost my entire life. Like you said, it's hard to see much of a future - there isn't one here for me. It's unaffordable, I hate most of the neighbours, and I'm paying rent at twice the cost of a mortgage payment. A renoviction would make me homeless. Fuck that and fuck this city, I'm out this summer.

  • You must be fun at pizza parties

  • Leek and potato soup, or cream thereof?
