  • LLMs can help you figure out more specific search terms and where to look.

Not knowing how to use a search engine properly doesn't mean these sites are better. It just means you have more to learn.

  • Use something else.

  • No.

Yes.Using chatgpt as a search engine showcases a distinct lack of media literacy. It's not an information resource. It's a text generator. That's it. If it lacks information, it will just make it up. That's not something anyone should use as any kind of tool for learning or researching.

  • Maybe go to more than 2 places for your information? I agree that this shit is also an issue with news and other media, but it's not that hard to find more substantial information on things. At least not yet.

And I can't remember the exact process off hand, but there's still a way to get search results without that garbage on google. I'll edit if I can find it.

*Found it. So, at least for Firefox, you can add a custom search engine through the settings. For the url, input https://www.google.com/search?q=%25s&udm=14 and then set it as your default se if you want. As far as I can tell, it's a simplified version of the main search, just without the "helpful" add-ons. Hope it helps some people.

**For some reason Lemmy is adding a '25' between the % and s. Those numbers shouldn't be there, just fyi.

  • I wouldn't. But if I absolutely had to, I'd try to find the shittiest person I could, born as close to when I was as possible, and as far away from me as they could be.

  • Why the fuck did you click a link like that in the first place? That first message is basically screaming at you that it's a phishing attempt.

Best opsec is to delete and block, ideally without opening it at all to avoid read receipts (if that's a function in your phone). If you think it might be legit, go to the website on your own and find a way to confirm independently. If that's still too much to follow through with, at the very least don't click random links sent to you unprompted.

  • So when you're kind of enthused about something but not, like, really psyched, you can say, "That sounds like a skeli-ton of fun."

  • Selfish and rude to do, let alone brag about.

  • Good thing I don't value the opinion of misogynists.

  • Gas station adderall and boner pills sitting side by side.

  • One last time - the post is about racists. The comment is about racists. You're the one trying to make it about anything else, which only serves to enable and legitimize racists. If that's not your intention, I'd recommend changing your game plan, because so far, you look like an apologist for racists at best.

  • I mean, this comic does. And the movies at large turned every character into simpletons that at any given moment are saying or doing the dumbest possible thing they could.

Also, Rocket pretending to understand is very in character, but I haven't seen any guardian movies past 2, so I don't know about Thor.

  • The movies do Groot dirty (and the rest of the team, too, for that matter). He's not a one-word simpleton - in his species, their equivalent to vocal chords harden as they age, restricting their vocabulary. In short, he doesn't say one word because he only knows one word, he can physically only say one word.

  • For one, the snide "tolerant left" comment is never about any particular person or party - it's a bad faith attempt to discredit valid critique of hateful or harmful actions, unreasonably demanding universal tolerance of everything, including intolerance.

Second, the comic is explicitly about racists, basically all of which are going to be trump voters, but that says nothing about any other part of that group. Extrapolating that to be an attack on all of those voters is flipping the equation to fit your own outrage.

That you're putting so much effort into defending trolls and racist is certainly interesting.

  • Nobody mentioned trump but you.

  • Nah. The "old age makes you conservative" adage is bs. I may not always be precisely on top of current trends, but I'll never be a racist, hateful shithead just because I lived a bit longer.

  • What aren't we understanding about, eh?

  • You're missing or ignoring my point. If the energy is provided by carbon neutral sources, then the amount used is irrelevant. That should be our goal. And I don't know where you're getting the notion that water resources are " boiled dry" or that gpu heat has any meaningful impact on the climate, but those aren't actual issues.

And for the record, I'm not defending LLMs or generative images here. That bubble would be better off bursting, but the energy use isn't why. Hell, it may be the only good aspect of the whole thing. With MS booting up old nuclear reactors, maybe it will revitalize interest so can make some use of that technology.

  • No, in this case I'm referring to the electric grid and what powers it.
