  • It'll have its uses, I'm sure, but is not like this training specialized compressors is free, or even always advantageous

The goal of OpenZL is to generate specialized compressors, optimized for user's input. To this end, you are going to train a new profile and use it to compress the data. The approach makes more sense when compressing a large flow of similar data, because the cost of training is then amortized across all future compressions.

While working for 12 years as the Director of HR for a multinational, Faith realized that firing people gave her an almost-spiritual high.

Out of the office, Faith coaches a little league softball team and looks after her sick mother - obligations she looks forward to being free of!

  • I'd even pay to watch that

  • yeah, this guy got syntax highlighting backwards. It never occurred to me that I should know the element-to-color mappings of my theme. For what good would that serve?

    • Complains that it's hard to see purple becoming red when return is misspelled
    • Creates a theme that doesn't differentiate reserved keywords from variables at all
  • those are mostly red and orange, so that also confirms the other comments' guesses:

  • fwiw, I used Kopia for around a year, but eventually the backup got corrupted with a BLOB not found error and there was no way to fix it.

similar to this issue, except that nothing would fix or improve the situation https://github.com/kopia/kopia/issues/1087

and because it seemed to be an issue with the repo (not just with a snapshot), the remote copy was also borked. I couldn't even list the snapshots.

I've since migrated to Rustic (though Restic might be more reliable today).

This seems to be the a similar issue too, but I was nowhere near the scale of this user. There are other similar reports that may or may not be linked to the same root cause, so it's hard to say how rare this problem is.

  • Don't forget the keyboard shortcuts. Office products would change shortcuts according to the language, so it would be more mnemonic. Ctrl-F for find and Ctrl-B for bold would be reassigned to whatever initials that language had. Fun! /s

  • I had completely forgotten about .avi

  • Most costly*

electric heating is very efficient in the sense that it converts almost 100% of the electric energy into heat. But electricity is expensive.

  • I work on a few repos that have branches that are rarely merged to the default one and it's quite annoying
