  • I know this violates “norms” but honestly it seems like small potatoes. Like, maybe being a former holder of public office shouldn’t grant you access to secure information. Why does GW Bush, or Bill Clinton, or Biden, or Obama, or Harris need a security clearance as private citizens?

  • True, I can’t imagine buying a used Tesla knowing that I’d still have to make monthly payments to keep some features.

I’m honestly surprised there isn’t a jailbreak community that completely replaces the Tesla OS with something else.

  • The article should just be “This Guy” followed by photos of Elon doing his thing for the last year or so.

  • The French government under the nazis in WWII was the Vichy government, who collaborated with the nazi German government.

    1. A nominal opposition party that is lead by Nazi collaborators.

    Vichy America, here we come.

  • Damn, I wish there was a…more involved explanation.

  • It’s…not shocking exactly, but a little surprising and a lot disappointing that so much of finance is now targeted at “let’s make a thing that we read about in sci fi novels we read as kids.”

Focusing on STEM and not the humanities means we have a bunch of engineers who think “book thing cool” and have zero understanding of how allegory works.

  • Fascism is not a “diverse political opinion,” it is a commitment to domination of the many by the privileged few.

  • It depends on a number of factors.

How thorough is the isolation/how “high” are the walls? Can I perceive the world outside the walls in any way?

    How good is the propaganda?

Do I have anything to lose other than my life? Do I have a community I care about within the city? A family? Children?

  • Regarding extensions, my understanding is that Apple makes it hard to prevent a bunch of trash extensions showing up that don’t do anything worthwhile.

  • A recent episode of The House of Pod podcast included a virologist and an ER doctor (the host is a gastroenterologist) and they talked about measles and the potential lifelong effects that a non-fatal case can cause, like blindness or deafness. They also contrast with the efficacy of the vaccine, the virologist got checked before going to SE Asia and despite her last MMR dose being in the 90s she had enough antibodies that her doctor said she didn’t need a booster. She went on to talk about how while measles has mutated it has not changed to bypass immunity.

  • He’s proven it at least once a year since 1980.

  • Musk won’t do it because Jon Stewart is funny and likable, two things Elon is not and will never be.

  • Hold them in contempt. Put them in jail for a few days, then declare a mistrial due to incompetent counsel. For repeat offenders, file a formal complaint to the state bar.

  • Who said anything about guns, or even violence?

“Jihad” means “struggle.” Mohammed once said the most difficult jihad was the one against ourselves, e.g. the struggle to be better people.

So a jihad for polar bears could mean throwing yourself into activism for the environment.

  • More of this from everyone please.

I’m not a fan of Macron, but at least he’s willing to call bullshit when bullshit is presented to him.

  • I was checking out that CNN news humor show “Have I Got News For You” and they had Mike Lawler on as one of the guests. It was painful to watch him stick to talking points on certain subjects (like Ukraine.) Even the GOP congress critters who are somewhat anti-trump act like they’re hostages, while the all-in people act like cult members.

  • Brazil in general seems like it really wants a middle class, y’all’s consumer protection laws are seriously good for the consumers too.

  • Maybe 30% of ICE personnel would understand that being the gestapo represents a “branding problem,” maybe 1% are ethical enough to feel bad about it but not enough to quit.
