  • What's the deal with hexbear.net users

  • I have been doing the "The Will to Change: Men, Masculinity, and Love" book club at menby@hexbear.net recently which has been my only real interaction with hexbear. The book club has been great so far and if anyone wants to talk about feminism and masculinity should join.

    There are a lot of in-group signaling across their own users which mostly shows up with acronyms, specific phrases and calling everyone comrade. This hasn't been that difficult in the book club which is long form text and discussion and everyone is respectful and nice. That being said I have blocked a few communities at hexbear because I have found them annoying and taking over my feed. So like everything here at Lemmy I had curate my own experience

  • My joke suggestion is Santa Tell Me by Ariana Grande. Mostly because it gives Santa very interesting Christmas themed powers of mind reading and divination.

    But I really enjoyed Sia's Everyday is Christmas album which is now on regular rotation this season. They are all new Christmas songs and got some bangers.

  • Frankly more people were excited about Tim Walz then Kamala Harris. Let's get more MN politicians in there instead of people from the coasts. The focus on getting someone from the Midwest is the only good news I see. We need someone from Minnesota, Wisconsin or Michigan to lead the party from the inside. They might be fully progressive but understand how to organize and message to everyone. They can't just float by on politics as usual

  • I know this isn't 100% on topic but I recommend you want this TED Talk by Esther Perel about infidelity. It might give you some different perspective about cheating and how to deal with it. Take a watch and see what she has to say. She is highly regarded and a very helpful.

    I do think you should go after having a conversation with your ex-wife and child about it. Talk with your child about what they hope they are getting out of it and set some expectations about you wanting to spend most of your time with them. Tell them you might be angry about the situation which has nothing to do with them. Do the same with your ex-wife and say you want to go but you might be angry at points. Say it out loud so everyone is aware before it happens.

    You can't fully disconnected from these people since you have a kid with them without hurting your child. Its going to be tough and rough but this might be a good crash course into your new relationship with your ex-wife and her new husbands. You don't have to like them but be friendly enough in front of your kid.

    Also free fancy trip. Count it has blood money for the infidelity if that helps you

  • This is the correct response since they all co-parent a kid together they will run into each other in the future. You don't have to be friends with this person but you got to be friendly. Give it a chance but make sure you have time to process and boundaries about what you think you can handle. This isn't for you but your kid. Be the bigger man

  • Agreed. Run on change for the better. Higher minimum wages, universal health care, paid sick time, paid maternity / paternity leave. This will get votes because people want something better in their pocket books. Student loan forgiveness was a great policy to run on. If it wasn't blocked in courts it would have given a huge boost to Biden.

    Trump is different. Bad but different. If you have little hope make sense to break everything. If there's a real progressive change candidate people will be excited. Change is what is needed

  • The first one is always hard. It does look complicated but with mail ballots should be doable. These are the kind of thing that take at least a few cycles to understand what is working and what is not.

    Reducing numbers or ranking the list by order would be helpful. I don't see any order in this list but that might be helpful

  • What it sounds like is an 18 year old who doesn't yet understand how the world works and how voting will work. You will never get a candidate (especially for president) who 100% matches what you believe. You got to pick the best realistic choice and try to get the best you can. Realistically a president has a limit to power and can't get everything but if you care abortion rights Kamala is who you pick. And getting a nationwide right to abortion back isn't nearly impossible. Its hard but not impossible
