Expecting anything more from a dead person is kinda pointless though. It's like crying about spilled milk. Nothing you or anyone can do about it—dead people are not able to be guilty of anything. The only guilt a dead person can have is the one assigned by yourself. Not you specifically, but anyone who wants dead people to be guilty of something. Dead people are not able to change behavior or learn from their choices or bring justice to any further victims. Expecting that is a futile effort.
AI was already doing good before ChatGPT and LLMs like folding proteins which shaped human history. I am really drilling down on LLMs and the sell to CEOs that generative AI can replace employees or that it is worth transforming the economy over. It's not. Computers had a dotcom bubble which made computers useful by creating the infrastructure for engineers to be produced by universities and companies to use the networking tech. LLMs wont be making anyones lives better any time soon. AI already did things for humanity before them. Computer neural networks existed before AI. It was called machine learning. Member the ML days before tech bros called it AI? I do.
Computers make money. Apple, Google, Microsoft, etc all proved that. They can sell you products that people felt like did things for them. It didn't make infinite money.
How much money does ChatGPT make? How much money does Grok make? How much money does Copilot make? How much money does Claude make? LLMs and generative AI don't make money. If they did, AI CEOs would be boasting about the massive profits coming in from AI.
That's what a bubble popping is. NVidia is over-inflated. AI datacenters are over-inflated. The bubble will pop, many will go out of business, and all of their hardware will be liquidated.
Chips. Where are they made? Right now its in Taiwan. Wafers for these chips are the most expensive part and that requires special factories and incredibly expensive engineers.
Valve cant just make chipa, they have to make it in quantities to satisfy demand while justifying upstart costs.
No one yells at me to read the friendly manual like the arch forums. The only yelling I see is political stuff. I don't see the console flame wars. Comments don't look like youtube of the 2010s and before. Its not 4chan. It doesn't have much of the smuggery of hacker news. I can block the chapo trap house people. Fediverse and activitypub actually works and we have some admins who seem to care about informing others of bad actors either as individuals to entire instances.
