  • Mhmm, 18TB HDD 🤤

Completely none of my business, but what does someone use a hard drive that big for? Does it come with insurance or a warranty? It seems like it would really suck if that broke.

To answer your question and add onto the pile, I would say pay off debt unless the savings interest rate is better than the debt interest rate (it usually never is).

  • I honestly think it's the best distro so far. Which sucks since it is so reliant on RedHat. I prefer to avoid corporate related distros like Fedora and Ubuntu, but I must admit they have a better experience right out of the box. I still want to give NixOS a try and maybe Gentoo, but after that I will probably come back to Fedora just like you...until something I think might be better comes along.

  • Personally, I couldn't do it. I understand if they are working hard to survive or provide for children/family, but when you don't have those obligations you really have to choose whether you want such a demanding career or a relationship. It's just not fair to the other partner, regardless of how much money they're bringing in.

  • A squiggle mark? (*puts on squiggle hat) Perry the squiggle mark!

  • I'm not implying that at all. And what's with the personal attack??? Talk about implying. I'm saying that in order to find a good relationship we should learn how to recognize and potentially put aside these sexual preferences in favor of seeing a person for who they really are. Most women prefer taller men. The height doesn't make them better partners.

  • Sexual preference is inherently selfish though. I'm not shaming it just calling it what it is.

  • There is no ideal height combo. You should enter into a relationship with a person because you like who they are as a person. Height preferences are purely selfish sexual interests.

  • Hostile, not that I have seen. Insular, possibly. Lemmy is much smaller than Reddit (which I personally enjoy) so it can seem like somewhat of an island. It's kind of inevitable to find know-it-all's in a thread based platform like this, unfortunately. I would imagine most people on here are very tech savvy and we tend to have a more nitpicky way of socializing/viewing the world. In the few years I've been here Lemmy has grown tremendously though.

  • Nice. I always watch during the fall when the air turns crisp and I'll pair it with a hard apple cider.

  • Same. I'm currently doing the mini PC media center. It's nice but I don't see my family doing something like that. It's a bit too expensive and less plug and play than a $40 Roku/Chromecast unfortunately.

  • Pushing the boundaries of what's possible. We're true pioneers, I'd say.

  • I've been really happy with buying a ~$200 mini PC and putting OPNsense on it. You just have to make sure it has two Ethernet ports. OpenWRT is another great option if you don't have the money for that.

  • While Cloudflare tunnels do work, streaming Jellyfin through them is technically against their TOS and they could shut you down for doing so. Instead, I recommend setting up Pangolin with a cheap VPS. Although, it will cost ~$5 a month or so.

  • And this right here is exactly why I chose Jellyfin. If it's owned by a company it will just get worse over time.

  • I really think Command Line Interface and keyboard shortcuts should be more mainstream. It's just such a powerful and efficient way to navigate your system.

  • Years ago I was talking with a pregnant coworker about our families. We got onto the subject of how quiet I am. She said "I would hate it if my daughter turned out to be like you." I was just stunned tbh. Like damn, I can't help it that I'm quiet. Why is that such a bad thing?
