  • If you don't feel like you need to take notes, then I wouldn't worry about it. Once you leave school, there's not necessarily a need for it. For me they are generally just reminders, like you stated.

The majority of my notes are placed in Google Keep. I know that Lemmy hates Google, but it's really convenient for me...since they are online I can access them from any device. And the app version sometimes comes pre-installed on my devices anyway.

If I only need to remember one simple, time sensitive item...then yes I often use a reminder app to notify me like you do too.

But here are some scenarios where I take notes in my notes app:

    1. Grocery lists. I can't tell you how many times I've gone to the store for only like 1 or 2 items and completely forgot to buy what I came in for lol
    2. Requests at work. Often, a task that is requested of me will be done over a landline phone. So I pull out my cell phone and take a quick note of the task to help me remember and make sure it is done correctly
    3. Semi-ordered lists of multiple tasks I intend to do. For example, suppose I am expecting family to come over one weekend. I'll have various notes that help remind me what I need to do and when. Things like different types of cleaning tasks, getting snacks, etc.

In my home, I also have a handwritten notepad of passwords to my accounts written in a cryptic partially pictogram cypher lol. If someone manages to find and figure them out, have fun with those accounts lol.

At work, I also often write notes directly onto my workbench itself in pencil! My workbench is a contaminated space, so I don't necessarily have my phone out. I use my phone to take notes while talking on the nom-conatimated landline. But at my workbench itself I write directly onto my workspace lmao. It probably looks a bit unprofessional, but I don't think it stands out too much and is easy to erase when done! The first time someone showed me that you could easily do this, my mind was blown lol. At work, I write workbench notes all the time lmao.

  • There is always nuance in everything. Didn't mean to imply that there wasn't. Actually, my mom was a cheater. But she cheated on her abusive husband that she was afraid to leave. So I didn't consider it to be immoral. In fact, I was amused when I found out.

In a majority of cheating cases, that's not how it all plays out. So a majority of times cheating is incredibly immoral and hurtful to the other person. Occasionally it isn't, but that isn't the majority of cases.

  • There are so many heinous people do because of their primal sexual drives that everything just seems so bizarre to me. I have never had the ability to experience such desires that are supposed to be instincts that everyone does. So it's really odd as an outsider to see what sex does to people.

    1. Causes them to cheat on others. Why? Why harm people instead of breaking up like you said.
    2. Causes them to r**e others. Why? Why can't you just masturbate? Why do you have to harm others to get this?
    3. Causes them to murder others out of jealousy. Why?

As an alien, I only see the downsides to sex. It's honestly saddening how common these are.

  • I'm with you there. I've only tried it a few times tbh and I'm 30. Didn't understand it. It was simply wet, awkward, and unpleasant and I didn't understand what I was supposed to be doing anyway.

Conceptually, I understand why people want and desire sex. For most people, it's a basic human instinct that exists because of a species's drive to further its own existence. But kissing? You're at the wrong end there. I don't get the appeal.

  • Agreed. And in the same vein...people who are unkind to others for no discernible reason. I've heard people give the excuse that they were just "stressed out" or "XYZ unrelated thing happened so I was upset".

Almost never in my entire life have I ever understood putting down innocent people because something was going on in my life. It's the absolute lowest form of the low to me. But people taking their anger out on innocent people is so fucking common that it's so fucking frustrating.

  • Sounds pretty productive! Good on you! Sucks about the cold tho.

  • Glad the kids had fun too!

  • A party within walking distance sounds pretty chill! One of the reasons I can't relax at parties is because I can't have much of anything to drink because I have to worry about driving!

  • Yeah new years was never a holiday for me. At my old workplace, we were open 24/7/365, so I was always happy to work on new years because of the holiday pay haha. It seems more like a thing if you go out and party. Nothing wrong with that! Just never something I did!

  • That actually sounds like a lovely evening even though you were sick.

I tried to go to bed early after having a rough couple of work days but I couldn't fall asleep for several hours which was a tad annoying. My coworker/friend still seems to like me and enjoy my company even though I occasionally go off the rails which is just endlessly confusing to me. I never know how to make up for being a crazy person. So we were texting a bit before I went to bed.

  • Gotta get those abs, baby!

  • I'm not here to diss EVs or praise ICE vehicles, but I want to simply directly answer your question. There's one simple mantra that is applicable to a lot of things in life...the dose makes the poison. Not odd to see people extrapolate to that your scenario.

In one, although the quantity is greater, you're "diluting" the gas into the humongous atmosphere. In the other, you're taking the gas straight up undiluted.

  • True

  • My new years resolution is to become more chronically online than I am now. Wish me luck.

  • Tbf my brother has a grade school teacher growing up with that as a last name and it was pronounced "SAUL-mon". Seems confusing for children learning to read or ESL lol.

  • I didn't know what this was so I had to Google it. Then I had to look up a video of how to pronounce it. Doesn't seem like a word that many people would know you're pronouncing incorrectly unless it involves their hobby or field of study, but maybe I'm just dumb or something.

  • How do you pronounce Norfolk?

  • I used to love it as a teen. But now as an adult, I don't really care for it much anymore...like it's ok but it's like maybe my 5th pick. I moved to within walking distance of two fast food joints...one of them being Taco Bell. I frequent the other fast food joint all the time (don't feel like saying which at the risk of being accused of being a corporate shill), but rarely ever go to the Taco Bell. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy it from time to time, but it seems like all the menu items are literally just meat, cheese, and tortilla. And then they get your order wrong 90% of the time even when you only order like 2 things.

With a lot (but obviously not all) other fast food establishments, it either feels like there is more variety or I can actually get something like a vegetable with my stuff. The other fast food joint near me makes a decent salad which is one of the reasons I like to go there instead.

    So idk.

  • I'm honestly really surprised that your mortgage is about half the cost of renting. That has not been my experience in recent years at all. That's how things used to be, but in post 2020 times, monthly mortgage payments often seem to surpass rent payments in my area, making the whole thing kind of a hard pill to swallow. Idk. Maybe I was looking at things wrong. I'm not a real estate expert. I just know that buying my place increased my monthly bills a bit instead of decreasing them like that. It seemed that would have happened with any property I looked at.

  • Imo mirror selfies do on average tend to look a lot better. I think a lot of it must be that the photo is taken from further away. This causes two things...

    1. The picture isn't a detailed because the shot is simply further away. Wrinkles, acne, and other imperfections are not as clear or pronounced.
    2. Features like your nose, chin, eyes, etc. appear smaller in far shots than close shots. In close shots, there is a bit of a "fisheye" effect due to the perspective, even if you aren't using a fisheye lens. It exaggerates a lot of facial features and isn't how you normally see yourself when you're looking into the mirror because you just aren't that close.

No, it's just just "because the image is flipped" which is what is repeated ad nauseum online. The biggest thing is the second point I mentioned.

There was a gif out there somewhere that very simply and easily demonstrates this phenomenon of how wildly different your facial features can look from this.
