I'm on the receiving end of this from a friend and I didn't even think twice about it. I think we're all in a place now where being asked to install yet another app is pretty commonplace. Plus phone app stores make it relatively painless to do.
Seriously. "Our product is as much a honeypot for corrupt policing as it is for public surveillance" as the way to whitewash this just goes to show how hard they had to workshop this press release. It's indefensible.
This is why I always go for a soft taco instead. Hard tacos want to be salad and will detonate into corn-chip shrapnel the instant you take that first bite, unmercifully dumping its contents onto the table and your lap in the process. I can't imagine eating one mess-free, unless equipped with a jaw that unhinges and a supernaturally flexible neck.
IMO, the line is whether or not we rendered the food at all safe, from a bacterial contamination standpoint. I'm not convinced that the volume of acid in a ceviche is enough to sterlize the fish - I love the stuff but I wouldn't let it sit out overnight.
I say this as someone that much prefers the expensive aged stuff. Once I learned that it's just cheddar with sodium citrate in it, I saw it for what it was: enhanced for things that normal cheese can't do. Granted, it's not top-shelf cheese by any measure; you wouldn't put this anywhere near a charcuterie board. That said, it works great as a cooking ingredient.
Also: I'm going to guess that not many would like salty licorice. I once had a bad head cold and took some of those I picked up in Iceland to help with the symptoms. They were just the thing to keep my sinuses clear.
IMO, it's not just a business advantage, it's a small-business advantage due to lack of bargaining power at small scale and the proportion of revenue (overhead) per employee. Big companies can bargain for better deals from insurance markets (bigger "risk pool"), and make way more per employee so it's not as big a deal. So, it's an tangible manifestation of "main street not wall street," if you feel like turning talking points back around for folks.
