    I guess I get to put it in whatever drawer I want. It's the only Pan Licker I've got. No rules!

  • I'm gonna break one of my rules and explain my joke ...Where I live, the things behind it are spatulas. And so is the red rubber thing. And they are clearly not the same.... So that's funny. Err ... well I think its funny. I'm not very funny.

    TLDR ... Spatchula and its variants wins by far.Got some good entries in the Creative category.But, I'm going to go with Pan Licker from now on!

  • To be fair, there are a lot of inane articles saying this exact same thing about javascript. If its true, its ancient history, and I'm tired of it. I learned javascript when it was a babe, and watched many other platforms fall by the wayside. I'm not defending anything about it, but javascript works. Still.

  • Method: Spend very little. Spend in few places. Use cash.Results: Stellar. I don't think about it much. I put money aside consistently.Timeframe: 15 years? Something like that. I had IRS problems, and stripped my life down. Its all clean now, and I keep it that way.

  • Al Jazeera is the mouthpiece of a hostile foreign power (to me). Its also sickeningly, cloyingly coated with hate for the US throughout any segment. I will on occasion read something that's been generically reposted, recognize the writing style, and then confirm that it came from AJ. Its so tilted that it reminds me of Fox News. And I don't watch Fox News either.

  • Ok. Yes, my use case is a private document and media store. I'm ungoogling.VPN seems like a good place to start. But I'd like a simple answer, and I expect there are none to be had. As you've illustrated here, I'll find a reason to punch holes in the firewall. And then I'm going to need to secure a web server. Life happens. I'll keep it simple for now while I sort things. Thanks for your perspective.

  • Ya. I understand VPN. I do enterprise IT stuff. The things I build assume a secure environment. VPN is step one.Nailing down a web server on the internet tho ... there's so many ways to attack. There's so many things to secure. And its a bit complex to manage all that.The nextcloud site covers hardening the server, but doesn't even mention vpn.I've been watching threads like this. I'm pretty convinced vpn is the answer.

  • I don't often change upvotes. Sometimes I will go back and upvote things after I better understood the poster's point.

    Downvotes tho ... I review my downvotes at lemvotes.org. I haven't changed many, but I do reconsider them.

    This discussion has convinced me that a vpn is the only answer.And almost everyone says wireguard.

  • I've just checked that setting. Ok, that's an option, thx. This is the first bot that I've actually noticed (aka it annoyed me), and I've blocked it specifically.
