  • I totally get what you're saying. Nextdoor really is an unpleasant view into how unintelligent everyday people are. I've seen it too. I try to be a humanist but they make it hard.

If we prioritize education they fail. That's why they attack public education with everything they have.

On the other hand, during Jim Crow they had poll tests that were weaponized to keep black people from voting.

  • Kodi has movie group/collections. I don't remember about Plex, it's been a long time since I used it

  • The median voter will never realize. They will always forget and eventually get scammed again. I haven't made peace with this, and feel a kind of grief about it, but it's the truth. We are trapped in this cycle of idiocy.

  • Some have tried. They have a long history of suppressing unionization efforts.

Full time employees are not currently unionized, although some contractors indirectly employed by Meta are. In April 2024, the NLRB ruled that Meta had unlawfully restricted employees right to organize, including "non-disparagement and confidentiality restrictions (that) prohibited former employees from raising workplace concerns with co-workers, labor organizations, or the public, preventing them from finding support when dealing with labor disputes. These restrictions would also apply even if former employees' statements were truthful."

  • It's the investor obsession with forever growth. It ruins everything.

  • I've long wondered when this was going to happen. Their investors must have been frustrated about the lack of revenue per user growth (eg, screwing us over with annual price hikes and removing features from free plan)

  • Can keepass do passkeys?

  • Evidence from previous outbreaks, including the Epuyén cluster in Argentina, in which three patients accounted for 21 (64%) of 33 secondary infections, indicates that person-to-person transmission of Andes virus infection can occur through close contact.

    https://www.thelancet.com/journals/lancet/article/PIIS0140-6736(26)00934-7/fulltext?rss=yes

And that was on land. There's no precedent for a cruise ship, a hilariously infectious environment. Fuck cruise ships forever, I wish we could just ban them.

  • Genomic information also shows that the virus involved in the outbreak is similar to Andes viruses already known to circulate in South America and is not a new variant. There is currently no evidence that this variant spreads more easily or causes more severe disease than other Andes viruses.

  • Big market, but also huge barrier to entry to get a phone ecosystem off the ground. MS, Amazon, Facebook, Mozilla and many others have tried and failed. Apple and Google have huge moats

  • Lmao beer goggles for the web, activating at random

  • For now, you can clear cookies and the pop up goes away. I suspect they will eventually retire the website, as is mostly the case for tiktok, which is pretty much impossible to use on the web. Corporations in general are trying to destroy the web in favor of apps, and consumers have been trained to expect everything to be an app, so there's a risk that someday browsers as we know them will be a niche web technology.

  • The interesting thing is that the media trained us to admire these people, and listen with bated breath to their advice. When in fact they are the last people we should ask for any kind of moral guidance. Their greed has made literally every major societal issue worse. Fortunately, I think that illusion is dissolving, and more and more it's a majority opinion that the rich are too rich and it needs to stop. Lots of disagreement on how to stop it, unfortunately

  • Some of them were born this way I suppose lol. They are a self-selected group of greedy people. There has never been an easier group to vilify, because they are literally villains, hoarding resources that others desperately need

  • .clam

  • Yep, they are still very convinced I'm a senior citizen. Possibly because of some bureaucratic mixups from when my dad passed away; at least that's when I started getting AARP mailers, end of life planning and other such stuff intended for someone thirty years older than me

  • Bitbucket/Stash is so bad, man. My org uses it, probably bc they got a good deal with it as part of Atlassian suite and it just makes everything less convenient than it has to be, from keys to collaborator permissions.
