At the ends of the day, it’s about what you’re comfortable working on. My daily driver is a MacBook Pro. I have a BeeLink S12 Pro that runs most of my self hosted stuff, and a Synology that runs a couple things. I also have an HP Z440 as a test bed box (powered off unless I’m working on something). I’m comfortable working with Linux and power draw was important for me in setting up my always-on server (my power bill is already high).

The only minor concern I would have with a mini is you’re limiting your support base. This isn’t to say there’s no support, there’s just less. Most self hosted are using something like a unraid, a beelink, or an old micro Dell/HP/Lenovo. Because of that, there’s a ton of stuff out there about getting various services running on these setups. The M-based mini environment is going to be a little more unique.

I have to use it for work, and I hate how links to other apps, say a Teams meeting, dot open up the app. Rather, they open a new tab in a browser, only to open the app while leaving a blank open tab in the background. It’s just sloppy as hell.

Not defending the guy, but he has not at all been out of work. He just hasn’t been in movie theaters nationwide. He’s been in plenty of stuff recently. John Oliver even mentioned how crazy it’s been that he’s been so busy despite all the racist and antisemitic rants he’s had.

I wouldn’t put it past him, but at this point if such a thing surfaced his fans would just claim it was a deep fake. For it to work, it would have to be broadcast and lib in front of an audience. Even then, the cognitive dissonance might be too strong for many to overcome.

Until he is literally caught, on film, live, in the act having sex with a child, there’s no such thing as a PR disaster for this guy. Even then, millions will still vote for him.

I would agree with this. Build your kitchen ware as you need it. Also, maybe check out carbon steel. Seasons like iron but isn’t as heavy. deBuyer makes some good ones that are preseasoned with beeswax. A bit more expensive than a Lodge pan, though.

Did they even agree he was a bastard? I vaguely remember this episode. I recall it being pretty tame.

Adding to this: All politicians will always go where they think the votes are. Of course there's some nuance to this. Trump doesn't think he has a chance in Hell of winning a state like NY or CA. Sure, he'll do some appearances, but everyone knows it's a lost cause. Same w/ Harris and the red flyover states. But if polling shows there are votes to be had and the campaign is willing to "shift" their stance, they will go after it. Every. Time.

I keep seeing people post and/or suggest on Lemmy that the US is overall more liberal than our national representation would suggest. If that's the case, why is the national polling still so damn close!? If I'm not mistaken, national polling reflects the hypothetical popular vote - i.e., no Electoral College bullshit. I even got into a pretty good discussion not too long ago over how voters can pull the Democratic party back to the left - by holding their collective nose and voting for the "left" candidate and holding the party's feet to the fire if they keep sliding right. At this point, any vote that isn't for Harris helps Trump get reelected. Regardless of what anyone thinks will happen in a Harris administration, we all pretty much know what will happen in a second Trump term.

Yes, the Dems have been pulled to the right by the GOP and the nature of the Electoral College, but an argument can be made that they've been pushed as well by apathetic, otherwise liberal, voters not voting. I get it. Every time I walk in the ballot box, there's a growing part of my brain that wants to vote for the craziest MF'er on the ballot in the hopes that all this nonsense will just burn down so we can start over. So far, the other side of my brain is still winning that argument. I did not enjoy voting for Biden. I won't enjoy voting for Harris. I didn't really enjoy voting for Obama the second time. But I'll still do it because the alternatives (including the "burn-it-down" one, for now) are worse.

Just reread you comment and I guess it’s the network that will cause issues. To be clear, I think I can make the cloudflare portion work one way or another (I have a second domain i can use if necessary). If my thinking is correct the tailnet communication would be over that IP space - not trying to route to my LAN net. Unless I’m missing something.

So I learned today that I need to play with the conflate tunnel if I want two systems using one domain. I’m hoping a second api key will help. Honestly, until I tested the second server on the tunnel, that’s been rock solid. Or are you saying using both networks will inject flakiness?

Also, I appreciate the suggestion of clustered with, but none of this is mission critical. If it’s down until I can login/fix, I’m ok with that. Only a 2-3 people using it.

Agreed. I’m not much of a coder, so the best contribution I can give is probably $$. At least until I get off my ass and learn something new!

True, it’s a good percentage, and probably better than most free software. That said, given the communities the self hosted apps support, their excitement for the products, and for some the essential nature of some of these apps, it would be nice to see the yes/no number more 50/50 at least.

I think this is pretty troubling. Including myself in the sentiment that the self-hosting community needs to do better. Aside from funding individual projects, are there any organizations that help fund self-hosting projects?

Serves me right for typing w/o my glasses on! I guess there could be a fun answer to what “raging a post” might entail, but I can’t think of one. Corrected.

I don’t see it mentioned, so maybe it’s not a popular thing, but the ability to tag a post. Often time this can be annoying, but it can help in filtering posts in certain types of communities.

I don’t know that I agree with the analogies, but they made me laugh!
