  • Driving on the road with humans and highway driving. Humans are remarkably stupid and volatile and yet, by and large, driving is remarkably reliable and safe despit the fact everyone is controlling a 3000+ lb weapon whilr distracted by thoughts and their phones. It blows my mind.

  • I was not expecting Assembly Row to pop up. My wife used to work for that developer and helped build and open that place. It was way too much work, would not recommend, do not like that property! But I hope the chowder was good :)

  • This is happening in all aspects of consumer electronics. Broad platforms of hardware and software that is cheap enough to meet all the needs then just water it down for the 'cheaper' varieties. The consumer has no attention span so everything has to be fresh and totally new with more features every 1-4 years max. Ita what the consumer demands from complex systems so engineers just need to churn shit out as fast as possible and everyone suffers.

  • Something I do which I've come to find is unusual is a Mexican-ish side dish. Soak and cook black beans. Then cook some onions in another pot, when soft add some cumin seeds and bloom then, deglaze with tequila, add the black beans and orange juice. Smash some of the beans to make it thicker. Cover and simmer for an hour. Its a magnificent side.

  • My install is bare metal, all SSD, redis and php-fpm optimization and I'm extremely happy with the performance. Also use transcoding from an Intel a380 and use Memories for the whole family. Works snappy and flawless. You need to tweak the php settings.

  • I bailed on rocketchat a few years ago for Mattermost and never looked back. Rocketchats update cycle was insane, sometimes two releases in a week but often several a month. A few pdates required full database dumps and manual tweaking. It just wasn't for me.

  • Thank you for putting into words what ive subconsciously been thinking for years. Every search result prioritizes videos at the top and I'm still annoyed every time.
