  • Yeah. It's kinda crazy how Reddit has just offloaded their moderation to unpaid volunteers and managed to have very few people complain about this.

  • I don't think the main users of these services are Twitter users as you can't log in to Twitter using the alternative frontends, nor can you follow accounts to create a timeline afaik. They're just for viewing tweets eg if someone has sent you a Twitter link and you want to see what it is, or for conducting open-source research on what a person has said or put out historically. At least that's how I use them.

  • I've never heard of people taking the knobs off their stove to use one side of it for prep. Is it that hard to simply keep the knobs at 0? That way you have the option of using them if you want to.

  • For effort: not exactly low effort but you can front-load all the effort by spending a couple hours cooking loads of food (I use a 5L Dutch oven for making pasta sauces, curries, soups, stews, etc). Freeze individual portions. Now you can just take out a portion and thaw it when you want to eat. All the aforementioned foods thaw on the stovetop on low heat so you don't need the foresight to thaw overnight either. I do like to spend a couple hours making the curry/soup/etc to a good quality, but once you've invested that time, you've got a good-quality curry/soup/stew/sauce to go with zero effort. Takes time to thaw but you can just stick it into a saucepan on low heat and walk away, do something else, come back and enjoy. If it's on low heat then you don't need to worry about leaving it too long unless you're gone for hours then it might have evaporated too much liquid.

    For financial (and somewhat effort) struggle: rice cooker and use lots of rice to bulk out a meal. You can stretch out protein sources, veggies, sauces, curries, etc just by having a high rice ratio on your plate. Even paired with slightly more expensive proteins, bulking out with rice means you can stretch e.g. a duck over many meals to amortise the higher cost. Also rice and beans is a classic poverty food and you can pimp it up a lot with spices and hot sauce—again, the cost of spices and hot sauce gets amortised over many meals so is not that expensive per meal. I buy the big bags of spices as they are cheaper per kg than the little bottles you get at the supermarket.

  • I'm surprised you think so. I think it looks nice. Might be another cultural thing—are you from a culture where it's weird to boil/braise chicken? Some cultures find the boiled chicken skin to be slimy and unpleasant, but it's enjoyed in many parts of Asia.

  • This isn't someone drawing CP though. It's AI-generated CP, which means the model had to be actually trained on CP. You might argue that there are already models trained on CP, and the chicken is already in the nugget, but legalising it creates financial incentive to train on CP because then you can sell your model to paedophiles.

  • It may well be intended as a serious attempt but personally I'm just going to view it as trolling/a gimmick, in which case I don't care how shit the actual platform is. Seems to be more about making a point against Musk than getting a serious userbase.

  • It will still generate traffic to Twitter in order to fetch the tweet. It's an alternative frontend for privacy purposes, so Twitter doesn't get your browser fingerprint, IP address, etc. It's all proxied through xcancel/nitter.

  • I have never had issues with pre-blended PB not spreading. You just mix the oil separation back in and it spreads fine. You don't need to refrigerate it; mixing it before use is not much labour.

  • 100k/12≈8k, including taxes, after taxes idk depends where you live. My rent is the majority of my income, and I make much less than that, so the absolute amount of money I have after paying for things like rent and utilities, to spend on food, is much less too, even if we assume the same % of income going to rent. Again I'm not saying things aren't more expensive in the US, but it is still a lot of money. You aren't going to be struggling financially. My friends in the US make much less than that. Maybe you'd be less well-off than peers who do the same job, but I hope you realise that for a lot of people elsewhere in the world, that'd be 3 salaries already.

  • Yeah I was gonna say. I didn't understand what people were complaining about, that's loads of money to me. I know stuff's more expensive in the US but it's not that much more expensive that 100k isn't an insane amount of money to live off.

  • Yes, I'm not an IT professional and don't have education in anything related to computers. Has always been a hobby for me. I don't want to do my hobbies for work because I fear it would take the fun out.

  • That's fair. Which models did you have? I had a couple problems with the earlier Google Pixels, but I've found the later ones have really ironed out their hardware problems.

    I think your main problem is going to be finding phones for cheap that also work well as Linux phones. I think the lowest-effort options like Pine phones are gonna cost you more. But I wish you luck.

  • Last I was aware, Linux phones work really well on Google Pixel 3as. They're no longer supported by stock Android nor still manufactured so I assume the second hand ones will be cheap.
