  • it's a feature, not a bug

  • It's beginner level, the hard part is the reverse proxy, once you have a grasp on that just having it on a dedicated box in a segmented portion on your firewall designated as the DMZ is easy. Id even go so far as to say its the bare minimum if you're even considering exposing to the internet.

It doesn't even need to be all that powerful since its just relaying packets as a middleman

  • Also run the reverse proxy on a dedicated box for it in the DMZ

  • You might actually be a wizard lmao

  • Supported by the "pro-life" party

  • I have questions, like uh did you ever....ya know....😅

  • The lemmy.ml instance not being treated the same as the rest of the Triad in regards to defederation

    Some highlights from the link:

"Don't worry guys, the Uyghur Genocide was REALLY just birth control! ~dessalines, .ml admin, dev https://lemmy.world/post/30580167

"See! nobody died IN Tiananmen Square, just AROUND it, so it doesn't count!!" ~ Davel, .ml admin https://lemmy.world/post/30673342

.ml admin, Nutomics continued transphobia https://lemmy.world/post/29222558

"NK is actually good and anything counter to that is Western propaganda!" ~dessalines, .ml admin, dev https://lemmy.world/post/31595035

General negative sentiment to other instances who haven't "seen the way" yet ~davel, .ml admin https://lemmy.world/post/27426510

"If you don't support Russia then you just don't understand geopolitics" ~dessalines, .ml admin, dev https://lemmy.world/post/27352415

And a long list of bans/censorship and allowing the proliferation of known propaganda and misinformation outlets clearly demonstrating use of their instance and recognition to force a political narrative

  • Lol, I've been wanting to tear down my old laptops down to the board and run them "bare" in my rack as some sort of cluster lmao

  • I'm not sure for all use cases, I can confidently say that if you depend on networking features of X or something like xrdp (Like me lol) then that's going to be a solid NO

    But if not, then maybe?

  • ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ it was mostly for others.

But on a technical note, subscriber count is an almost useless metric on Lemmy. There are a LOT of dead accounts.

A far better metric is MAUs, which .ml linux ranks 29th

  • Context:

    Why am I cross-posting .ml?

I cross-post from .ml to the nearest relevant non-.ml comm to reduce the influence of .ml comms and indirectly, the instance as a whole, to make it an easier decision for other instance admins to defederate because one key reason I identified that admins don't want to defederate is because .ml still has some very large comms and some niche comms.

    Megathread on the issue

And so so much documentation on clear heavy handed censorship and bias also on the link. So much I can't even put them all here because this comment would be really long.

I believe the behavior of its admins (the main admins are Lemmy devs) does harm to the overall growth of the Lemmy-verse and maybe even the Thrediverse (since Lemmy kinda kicked off the Thrediverse) because of its association with the devs of Lemmy and their insistence to use .ml as their personal political platform to spread harmful propaganda

On the outside, bringing up Lemmy frequently leads to comments like "Lemmy? Isn't that the place with a bunch of tankies?" Or "Tried Lemmy, but found it full of pro Russia crap so I left". The best way forward from that I see is to either widely defederate from .ml like the rest of the Triad, or pressure them to put a fair and unbiased as possible admin team.

  • Lol it's all good! Live long and prosper 🖖

  • Hi! I saw your edit and see you got your answer, but I'll just leave this here for record keeping as well.

No, not a bot, I explicitly didn't want to automate this at all so every one of my posts has been manually done by my hands. The most I do is notifications of new posts from .ml based off their RSS feed

  • It's in the crosspost menu

  • Shots fired lmao

  • No no, the one that goes Boop beep beep boop!

  • I miss old YT

  • Kinda, Infowars/Alex Jones was in court and being ordered to sell off their assets to pay the Sandy Hook lawsuit. The Onion put in a bid along with another company that "Totally has no association with Alex Jones", The Onion's bid was higher than this other company, but the judge basically said "Um actually, no you can't have it" and froze their bid on a technicality
