  • Thanks. I'll think over everything you said. It does look like my instance could be eligible as a companion instance if executed well enough. Regarding alt accounts, I feel one must at least contribute somewhere on the instance to participate..... Yeah it's gonna be a tough problem to crack, and also the one other user pointed out, about funding. For an initial period I may run the pilot project, but when admins themselves aren't stable, it's going to create some problems.

Thanks for your feedback. I'll think over it

  • Gives me confidence!

So, someone pointed out, there's always someone who's paying for the server costs and they might not like paying for instance someone else is running, what would be your take on that? Is there a way to tackle that issue?

  • Fair point.

  • Thanks! You're an instance admin too I believe. Yes the idea is very close to anarchism, but Athens used sortition on top of it for day to day work.

Do you think the admin recalls and governance threads are working well, and haven't been abused? Also I don't find the fediverse instance you said, is it the same as dbzer0?

  • Aren't most instances on lemmy running on donations? While I absolutely understand your point, because of this I don't think the hoster will have a veto unless they are the one funding it from their pockets

  • Yeah idea may sound stupid to some, but is it a question not worth pondering over?

  • Dude, so many times I have encountered bad software lately, and I always thought, some Idiot must have used LLM for this. And I don't even know why. Everything that already was working good started breaking down for some reason. Why are devs wrecking their code base just to fix minor bugs?

  • App experience has been shitty too.

  • I don't think they dodged it

  • Damn, republicans are literally American BJP. It ain't even a metaphor anymore

  • Potatoes, onions, garlic too.

  • I'll be honest, looking at how stupid people are today, I absolutely have no curiosity in seeing how stupid people were 300 or 400 years ago

Okay I don't wanna sound too cynical, but let's even forget complex physics, how are you going to even teach basic physics, and how likely are they are to even listen to you? Yes every action has an equal and opposite reaction, what's a peasant gonna do with that knowledge? Unless you bring a real piece of technology with you, I feel it would be very hard to get their attention.

  • On a serious note, most of physics would just sound like witchcraft to them.

" You know the tides you see are caused by the gravitational pull by the moon "

    " What is a gravity?"

" It's a force that's exerted by large bodies on each other "

" So is it like magic?"

    "..........."

" What other gods do you believe in?"

Correction: tides not waves. Thank you @gandalf_der_12te@discuss.tchncs.de

  • That's the craziest AOC take I have seen since I joined the internet

  • Honestly people are more likely to just quit those websites rather than join new places. I support that though. And I am seeing a lot of people around me are going away from these platforms recently.

  • People are far less aggressive with their opinions compared to reddit. 90-95% of people here are decent people though with strong opinions. And as long as I can have a civil discussion with someone I think it's a decent enough place to be, no matter what bias.

  • True, Lemmy feels this way almost exclusively because it's small and hasn't been noticed by mainstream media enough. The second that changes this place will become what reddit was pre-ipo.

  • Not just comments. Even lurkers.
