  • Remember the genetic essentialism of the "everyone becomes Vulcan" episode from the third season. Yeah, not a good look, this episode is now.

Is anyone watching the 4th season? Want to know if I should bother after the disaster that was the end of last season.

  • We are capable of it, but the incentives are all fucked for it. It requires people to put in a fuck ton of effort... and then not suck up more then they need in doing so. Then, while they're not vacuuming up excess resources, they also have to fight all of the people who want them to fail in order to maintain the status quo. It's gonna be hard, but it isn't impossible. Once a big enough group gets past that line, it'll get easier for the rest of us to cross it as well (assuming no unnecessary lines get drawn in the doing so)

  • So every day, you just have hundreds of the same outfit. Got it

  • The first two panels are the whole comic. The third panel is lampshading the first two. Sometimes you gotta make deadline, not every comic can be a winner

  • "You see these guns? That's how" - the fascist bootheels at the border

  • They made the world to fill us with fear and then sell us a remedy for the fear. They give us pointless work to fill up our time, and then sell our time back to us in the form of convenience. They made the world filled with anger, and then sold us outlets for our anger.

They had the stuff, so they made the rules, so they made the rules to favor them getting more stuff, so they have the stuff, so they make the rules...

The Ouroboros eats itself starting from the tail, but it's the head that does the eating. These actions always start with someone who has enough wanting more. If we had the ability to shape our own destiny, we'd grow far beyond these petty things (think of how much generational trauma starts with "we can't afford to live" as the ignition point). That requires the people with the boots to get off our necks first.

  • Yes, that is the way that the entire industry, from X-ray machines to NASA astronauts, is run. ALARA and the Linear No Threshold model are standard in the industry. The issue is that the science disagrees with the need to take those extreme precautions.

    https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC2663584/

Basically, ALARA and Linear No Threshold assumes that radiation is a novel danger and we must treat it as though our bodies have no mechanism for dealing with it. But our living world is absolutely steeped in radiation and we have obvious biological responses to those threats as a result. Like getting sunburnt. The sun didn't burn you, your skin cells voluntarily told your body to kill them because they were irradiated. We also have less extreme mechanisms of DNA repair for lower doses. Meaning there is actually a minimum dose needed for you to be in any kind of danger.

  • This isn't a rule that promotes safety. It's a rule that assuages the fears of anti-nuclear activists with no meaningful difference between this and other standards in terms of danger. "As low as reasonably achievable" means that even if there is seemingly no return from a safety perspective, you still need to reduce not just radiation emission, but exposure time. It assumes that radiation is lifetime accumulating and that there is no safe level of radiation exposure, even though that doesn't match the science.

Say, for instance, you have a nuclear reactor that exposes employees to the same amount of radiation from having a banana in their pocket during work hours would. There is a new type of radiation shielding that can be retrofitted to the reactor to reduce that by 10x. There is already no danger due to radiation exposure. ALARA states that you should undergo the retrofit, since it is possible to reduce the level of exposure, even though there is no difference in danger between now and that hypothetical future where you have the new shielding.

  • A neonazi fuck face talking to the son of the former president. Why the fuck anyone is giving air time to a neonazi, I have no idea

  • Have you considered how unprofitable it is to run it in a different way? Why do you hate profits?!

    /s

  • To clarify, I was speaking of the immediate economic fallout. I partially agree on the "party holding the hot potato losses elections when it goes off" but wasn't the angle I was talking in

  • They're morons who think higher testosterone means more manly and they need the manliest army to compensate for their emasculatinity

  • Nah, fuck off with this slop. Either draw skeletor, use an existing image, or badly draw it in paint. All are preferable to the shit slop image.

Fuck, even leaving the image out is preferable to this crap.

  • Best case scenario is a slow bleed until a Fed chair from the next admin is appointed, and they're a strong Keynesian or better. Worst case is the crash coming at any point during this admin (including election fuckery, preventing transition of power). That'll be the whole house of cards.

  • (Looks at the history of Musk in the public eye)

I'm gonna say it's the idiot one. All the moron had to do was keep his mouth shut and keep paying to buy the founder title of other market disruptors and he'd've been the next Henry Ford (literal nazi that Americans remember fondly cause he was "pro-labor" (threw labor a bone to disrupt union efforts))

Instead, we now all know he's an evil idiot with an ego problem.

  • It's a dog whistle for casting only white people and no queer actors. If something has a racist angle, assume that's the one Musk means

  • I'm sorry, I can't parse this at all. What are you trying to ask or say here?
