  • “Trump’s tax funded lawyers”

  • Sounds like a yeast infection…

  • My perception of Chinese brands is:

    1. China doesn’t protect or respect brand originality and innovation so it’s nearly impossible for brands to differentiate themselves. Any distinctiveness will be immediately copied.
    2. Cost minimization is the primary driver for Chinese brands with merely “sufficient” quality at best. I think this is largely brought on by item #1
  • The danger here is asking a native English speaker their opinion when it could be a very cultural distinction. A U.S. dictionary will unambiguously call it a sandwich, but that could be simply to facilitate explaining what it is to a less familiar audience; essentially ”it’s a sandwich with these unusual characteristics”.

We also have “hot open face sandwiches” though which is typically a single slice of cheap sandwich bread topped with hot sliced meat (usually turkey or roast beef) and hot gravy.

But if you want my opinion, yes - they’re all sandwiches (albeit non-traditional).

  • So croque monsieur/madame is not a sandwich?

  • “An open faced sandwich is not a sandwich” is a bold take.

  • Donald Trump's Truth Social post praising negotiations with Iran as "productive and professional" triggered an immediate backlash Sunday — not from Democrats, but from his own most fervent supporters, who accused him of repeating Barack Obama's mistakes and demanded military destruction of the Iranian regime instead

I take it this is a different faction from that non-interventionist MAGA faction?

  • “Hide accessible captions” is an option in Settings -> General, but I believe this is for user applied alt text.

  • The only thing Plex has that Emby & Jellyfin don't, that I think is pretty neat, is the combining of multiple servers in one library UI. That's it.

For myself I can access jellyfin from my tailnet, but Plex also makes secure sharing with friends and family over the internet simple.

You also get their OTA broadcast guide for free with plex pass. I doubt anyone else will ever offer that. The cheapest option I know of is HDHomerun’s for $35/year.

With those two things I suspect I’ll be sticking with Plex (if not exclusively) until they go out of business.

  • Plex Pass certainly has functionality and features that jellyfin doesn’t; just not $750 worth…

  • Does 1776 even count as a dog whistle? No one raised in the U.S. is going to see 1776 and not know what it’s a reference to and it’s not even anything controversial.

If they wanted a dog whistle they’d have gone with 1488 (like my HOA’s annual dues this year 😡). I’d be surprised if they didn’t discuss it but decided theycouldn’t stomach the smaller amount.

  • this feels like "if this doesn't work we shut down."

Nah - this is just “we don’t actually want to sell this anymore, but hey, if you’re desperate we’ll give you an option”

They’ve long ago moved away from the hobbyist media hoarder to…trying to be a streaming player I guess?…

  • Don’t believe they’re committed unless they change the name of the company again…

  • The NYT article cited in the Wikipedia article only says it was a Tesla. The WSJ article also cited does specify it was a Model X.

  • “Not gonna get you a diamond ringThat sorta gift don’t mean anythingNot gonna get you a fancy carGirl, ya gotta know you’re my shinin’ starNot gonna get you a house in the hillsA girl like you needs somethin’ realGonna getcha somethin’ from the heart…”

  • Oh my - I like the sound of that structure. Around here managers don’t have to “know enough” to make decisions; they just have to think they do. And boy do they.

We’re still in the process of un-lift-and-shifting their big-brain “lift and shift” cloud plan back on-prem.

  • This is kind of why I asked. What I’m seeing (as a non-programmer) is management pushing AI and LLM use so hard that I could imagine someone high enough up mandating away code reviews.

I’m glad you (and most responders) seem confident the the levy will hold…

  • …or “mandatory fun” as it came to be known around my work place.

Which…I get it…but I always appreciated the distractions from work…

  • To someone who lives on a farm, so do you.
