  • linux is good but it’s not magic either… it’ll help a 50-55 fps game run at 60 fps, but the game that crawls on windows won’t fare that much better on linux unfortunately

  • the homebrewer i was buying from didn’t support this one, so i would’ve had to convert it, which means fees typically

    anyways, i don’t really care to maintain a crypto portfolio. i buy the coin when i buy the thing, so volatility isn’t too much of a concern. my main annoyance is at the bonkers fees that exchanges want because they (rightly) recognize cryptobros as a milkable consumer base

    to my great annoyance, almost all diy hrt online can only be bought using crypto. and wow does it make you hate cryptobros to have to navigate an ecosystem clearly designed for speculation to get your life-saving medicine 🫠

  • unfortunately switching away from messengers like this is much harder than other stuff cuz you have to move your entire social network over. it can be done, but unless all your friends and family are also foss and privacy nerds it’s going to be difficult

    then again idk if it’s possible, but if it is, you should at least use whatsapp within a web browser. it may even consume less ram that way lol

  • making an analysis of the codebase itself, especially with ai, is gonna lead to very subjective results. this website is good because it finds telltale sings, like commit messages. if a commit says "written by claude", you can’t really deny it! not to mention that for someone who doesn’t want to use ai because of ethical reasons, "just ask ai" is not gonna cut it.

    of course the website is not perfect. if someone hides their tracks, it won’t detect it. and it can have false positives: it’s gonna detect any agentsmd (or similar) file, even one that says "this project does not accept ai-generated contributions" (example), and i’ve seen a case where it labeled a commit as generated by claude because it came from someone with an anthropiccom email address (i looked, and this person is not an ai but just an employee of anthropic lol). then, as with any tool, it becomes your job to do your due diligence and check for these sorts of things.

  • even if you have a debit card, in much of the world unless it’s a visa/mastercard it’s not going to be accepted in many places online

    my debit card (in canada) uses interac. it’s accepted basically everywhere in physical stores, but online it’s pretty much useless if you don’t also have paypal (which is also not accepted everywhere a credit card would be)

  • unfortunately even indie games often require at least midrange hardware, like dedicated graphics cards.

    i had to refund peak because it doesn’t run well on my computer, which only has intel integrated graphics, even at the lowest graphical settings…

  • you’re right, but the solution is not to give everyone the inalienable right to drive, it’s to redesign the city such that people who can’t drive can still live in it fully (i.e. build public transit and walkable/cyclable path of ways)
