  • Yes. He is now directly and mockingly violating the constitution and an explicit Supreme Court order. It is now a completely naked constitutional crisis for all the public to see.

    Reasonable people have seen it happening since long before today, but today marks a shift from a more covert assault to an open one, and that is noteworthy.

    Eta: I don't mean they were really covert before, either, to be clear. They dropped any remaining veil of plausible deniability today though. And then also let it slip on recording that the intent is to deprive US citizens of due process and ship "terrorists" (read: undesirables) to El Salvador, too. Today is a historic day, sadly.

  • This is the one to watch. All of the cases are important, of course, but this one has come to a head. The top layer of the judicial branch has issued an order at odds with the wishes of the Trump administration, and it's the executive branch's constitutional responsibility to see that the order is carried out.

    This is where we find out if our fascist leader has any guardrails left to protect our democracy or if we truly live in a fascist state where people can be disappeared with complete public awareness at the whim and pleasure of ICE.

    I mean, better odds are better odds. But I'm not confident this isn't a bought court already, recusal or not.

    I am about to read the article, I've not read it yet, my comment is based solely on the actors in this particular description.

  • Exactly, it's instinct for him. The planners are all the people around him, and they are pushing their plans (see Project 2025, for example), but for Trump all the stuff he says and does is automatic. That's my read, anyway.

  • Gramercy, in lieu of "thank you very much." I don't know why, but it's something from Mallory's King Arthur stories that always stuck with me and I think it deserves a revival.

    ETA: for those unaware, it's a conjunction of the French gran merci, which translates the same way you probably suspect: big thanks, or grand thanks, or in other words, thank you very much
