  • Yeah ok. But java uses weird graphics toolkits. For example many java apps still rely on X11 and look like crap on modern Linux, have no support for fractional scaling etc.

  • Tbh the T470/80 seems to be one of the last real Thiccpad series.

    I had one in my backpack and slipped on ice, fell straight on my back. Laptop didnt have any issues

    Doesnt this just work with caching? Is the media actually stored forever?

    There are plenty of music players for local files, so while the idea might fulfill some issue, I dont see the use case.

    I listened to the Tech over Tea episode with the GNOME guy about their new systemd dependence. Any regular distro uses systemd, everything is free software.

    Nobody is forcing anything.

    KDE is building new tech, streamlined, minimal, performant. And yeah that uses systemd.

    But if people want to generalize components so they can work on OpenRC or worse init systems, I highly doubt that they will block it.

    Or that they will block launching startplasma-wayland from any other login manager, which currently already works. This is just their login manager, with way more features that are crucial for making it a windows competitor, like headless RDP support.

  • While it is a cool project, a release on Feburary is kind of crazy, that is so fast! I will try it a few months later (on NixOS which is 100% dependent on systemd as systemd is nice)

    Did you know that Debian uses systemd but neither systemd-boot nor systemd-resolved? So you have an extremely shitty and slow boot and no DNS-over-TLS support. Amazing.

    Well, KDEs Qt fork (I think they have one). Qt is released proprietary and the older versions are open source. Which may make it pretty well funded but also always behind on updates.
