  • Sorry for your loss. Your Abbey looks an awful lot like Kiki, who I lost years ago now, and who had such a profound impact on my life. I found this poem then, and it helped me a lot in getting through that very difficult time.

  • Cricket here. The service is relatively cheap, they offered a bunch of phones for cheap/free (with a new account), and I've never had any issues with the quality of the service/signal. I like not being locked into anything. The monthly bill hasn't changed in years, and that's nice too.

  • The only "real" album that came out in 2024 that I listened to start-to-finish was Hyperdrama by Justice. It got a lot of flak online for being "uninspired" etc etc, but I think that mostly speaks to how great their first two studio albums were. The opening track on this one features Tame Impala and has an equally awesome music video.

    After that, second place would be a tie between two 2024 live albums: ¡Blow it … at Madison's Quinceañera! by Me First and The Gimme Gimmes and Beast of Horns by They Might Be Giants. I got the latter on vinyl for Christmas and it's a lot of fun if you're a fan.

  • Worked for a close friend of mine, he went from a pack a day to vaping, and was then able to lower the concentration of nicotine gradually over time. He still vapes, but no nicotine, and he never went back to cigarettes.

    It's so hard to lose someone you love, but it's written into the contract from the moment you let them into your heart. I've lost a couple cats now, and when I feel myself getting sad while thinking of them, I allow myself that moment to process, but then am sure to remind myself of how lucky I am to have had something in my life that was so great that it could still make me feel that way, years later. It takes time to get there, but I think it's what they'd want.

    My condolences to you, Momo is a true beauty.

But I think yours is an important question for people to be asking, if they ever hope to prevent abuse (as much as could ever be prevented, I guess).

I was, at most, 50% mentally present in the moment, and the other 50% of my brain was dedicated to suppressing thoughts like this or being prepared to evoke a genuine sounding laugh so I could pass it off as a joke. Nailed the interview, though.

  • Nice. Congrats! Similar take here -- my fiancee and I recently found a vintage setting acquired from an estate sale, plus a stone of her choosing (Labradorite), at a local family-owned jeweler. We ended up with a much more substantial and unique piece, spent way less money, limited our involvement in a predatory trade, and we're gonna put that savings toward a nice experience together.
