  • I used to work for a large corporation. I was on a team of 10 people. My whole job was to run three queries and copy and paste it to excel and send it off on tuesdays. I would do it on Tuesday mornings and it took me about an hour.

    My teammates had similar tasks. They were in charge of one report or handout and they would automate so much it would take them about an hour to do.

    One day our manager tells us we are getting a new team member because our work load is going to increase substantially.

    The new person got their own report. And they messaged me once, “I am done with my report what do I do next?”

    I responded, “wait until next week and do the same report”

    I was at the company for ten years.

  • GameStop has a certain percentage of eBay stock. Essentially they “own” a relative large percentage of eBay already. They also have a substantial amount of third party funding.

  • Video games, 3D printing, and movies/television.

    Modern video games are nothing more than a linear hand holding experience with hours of pre-rendered cut scenes. If I am interested in a game, I watch a streamer play it long enough for me to be bored then I read the plot on Wikipedia.

    I used to have multiple 3d printers going. But after one broke down, I didn’t have the motivation to fix it.

    Movies and television shows are the same slop with tired tropes. I watched Con Air with my son the other day and he was amazed with the difference between the acting and presentation in the 1990s compared to today.

  • I married her. That’s pretty crazy to dedicate your entire life to one person. But I knew I found my soulmate for life. Been married for over 20 years now.

  • Yes. And people just eat it up. I get it. I got caught up in the “hustle and grind” of life. I tried multiple income sources and I was proudly working 80 hours/week while missing my children grow up. But a life altering event caused me to pause and reassess my life. I started working less and spending more time with my family. I worked on myself from being low tempered to be more “go with the flow”

  • I know they are paywalled but they give so much information.

    I had a contractor that took my money and ran. I used one of those reverse lookup sites with just his name and phone number and I got his address as well as his relatives.

    He did not like the fact I had a deputy serve him his court appearance or the time when I called his mother to confirm his data before the court date.

    Long story short, I won the case. He claimed no assets so I will never get paid back.

  • I had $0.14 in my checking and $0.07 in my savings and my mortgage was three months behind and I didn’t have a job and I didn’t have anybody I could turn to for money. I realized how much I had and how I wasted it all. And knowing that climb to get back was going to be hard.

  • I had a small plumbing leak that cost me $700 to fix. There was some water damage but insurance will cover it.

    The cost to remove the water - $10k The cost to rebuild after the water leak - $60k

    The way our floor was laid makes it impossible to fix just the affected area. They need to tear up the entire kitchen, living room, and hallways.

    Six weeks of construction and while they are tearing up the kitchen we have no fridge.

  • My boss, her boss, her boss’s boss, the big boss (who reports to the CEO) and I are on a meeting last week.

    At the beginning of the meeting there were some pleasantries being shared. The big boss shared her kid was going to be featured in some large chess tournament

    My boss replies “that’s great. What kind of chess does he play?”

    I was shocked because there is only one type of chess just like there is only one type of checkers. Yes I know there is 4-d chess, Star Trek chess, and chess game variants. But typically there is only one type of chess.

    The big boss answers “You know chess. He is a grand master.”

    My boss replies “Grand master. Does that mean he is a performing magician?”

    I sat there looking at my screen in shock. My boss had not idea what grand masters are.

    The big boss had to explain the chess grand masters to her.

  • Me too. I went to the ENT last week and they said I should look at hearing aids.

    I bought a pair of EarPods pro and they have a hearing aid feature. I wear those when I need to hear better.
