  • ...Straight man, champion of the...

  • Exactly why i don't put the license plate on my car, can't let anyone see that sensitive information

  • The install process should be deterministic. When you run sudo make install it should do the same thing every time you run it. If this process fails, it's because of a missing dependency or permission issue or something like that. The failure should never be because of a statistically probability during installation that causes the installer to go off and do something wildly different.

  • People can change

  • I guess it's up to the reader to determine if the linked article from a few days ago of Hank reflecting bullish attitude should be judged separately from the articles and videos months ago about his behavior he has since identified as problematic. Maybe he used to be a piece of shit, not anymore? People can change.

  • His quote from the article:

“[…] I need to come to terms with the fact that the level of dopamine I’ve been getting from interacting with LLMs…with doing more and more and more and more…is not healthy for me or good for the world. It is careless, and has disconnected me from where people are on this.

I was talking about this with [my wife] Katherine last night and she did not pull any punches. Frankly, neither did [my brother] John. Neither of them think I’ve been being healthy. I need to readjust.”

Not really knowing the drama before today, it seems like he is being very rational and speaking honestly about the effects LLMs are having on his behavior and that he identified he needs to change, which is what the whole article is about.

Piracy team? You mean they'd pay me for what I do for free??

  • Ohh I see, so the governor would be able to appoint an interim senator if the seat is vacant before Aug 3rd or whatever day, but unlikely that they'd ever get sworn in or do anything more productive than an empty seat?

  • So is the logic that it's best if the seat remain vacant and not risk a younger more alive republican to be elected in a special election and sworn in, where as if a democrat won the seat, they'd basically not be sworn in anyway and it'd be as if the seat were intentionally vacant?

  • This is a great video from one of the devs about the window product activation and how much they thought about how they'd determine how many changes to a system was a new device. Idk how windows works now, but it was fairly common back in the day to upgrade often, and you didn't need a new Microsoft license most of the time when doing so.

  • You're right, i reread the article and it mentions similar lawsuits against Sony / Microsoft, so they all suck. I think the reason Nintendo is being singled out here is because there is not a lot of news with those other lawsuits, but with this one, Nintendo is trying to dismiss the case saying plaintiffs:

“received exactly what they paid for: Nintendo products that Plaintiffs knowingly and voluntarily purchased at the advertised price. Nor is there anything ‘unjust’ about Nintendo retaining money that it may receive from the government as tariff refunds. The fact that Nintendo stands to receive tariff refunds does not give Plaintiffs any legal entitlement to those funds.”

With Nintendo's litigious history and them being the first to try to dismiss the case with this argument, they deserve the blowback they're getting from their own customers.

  • I had someone on my team who we had to let go for not showing up to work, and it took 3 tries to just get him to join the call. For the backstory, he basically didn't work for ~9 months into the pandemic when we were all working from home. He wasn't very productive when we'd be in the office, but when WFH, he seemed to only do work when we were on our one on ones, and it got to the point where I had to schedule a 3 hour call every day to motivate him to do work. Eventually he stopped showing up to most of those and was wasn't getting anything done, and wasn't fair to everyone else on the team picking up the slack. Sucked for everyone involved.

  • Please bro, just let us watch your every movement at all times. Why you have to be like that.

  • FYI DMs aren't encrypted, so they would be visible to admins (on both sides of the conversation). There is a warning about this when starting a DM, but is something to consider. I'm not sure how the delete function works, but best to go with the assumption that DMs are soft deleted (i.e. not removed from the DB, just not returned) and could be visible after being deleted.

  • FWIW, votes are actually public information and sent as activity pub events for the votes to be counted from different instances. For example these are the people who up/down voted this post: https://lemvotes.org/post/programming.dev/post/54017015

I guess with this info, don't be horny on main and vote on stuff you wouldn't be comfortable with others knowing about.

  • Nintendo is being singled out because they're withholding the tariff refunds for tariffs they never paid and passed on to the customers. When the tariffs were imposed, no one really blamed Nintendo and knew it was the Administration's fault. If Nintendo didn't want sales to drop because of higher prices, they could have eaten the additional tariff cost until it all got sorted out. Had they done this, then they'd be entitled to that tariff refund money. Instead they passed on the tariff cost to customers, which sucks for customers but was really the only sensible thing Nintendo could have done given the circumstances, and most people aren't really blaming Nintendo on that decision. But now Nintendo is trying to have it both ways, not pay any of the tariffs and keep all of the tariff refunds which is why they're being singled out. It's pure greed on their part with blatant disrespect to their customers.
