Trump is exploiting all of the "except for an emergency" language in our laws. He just claims everything is an emergency no matter how stupid it is. The courts, in their extremely limited wisdom, long ago decided that there was no way for them to determine what a valid emergency was and just defers to the executive.
I mean... I don't disagree but you're arguing against somebody who is not here. I honestly don't know what you expect in response. If you want people to behave a certain way you can either:
a) Say they're stupid and change nothing and continue to bitch about the problem or
b) Understand why they're doing what they do and try to address it.
Your vps isn't doing anything useful security wise.. it's just sending traffic directly to jellyfin.
You'd get the same protection with just port forwarding to a local proxy in front of jellyfin. Or you could even leave out the proxy if you didn't need it.
One shiny platform like for example Nextcloud to do it all might be nice for a lot of users when they have someone dedicated to maintain it. But for selfhosting (as in: mainly for myself) the constant attention needed to fix stuff was quite tedious.
I have run nextcloud for many years, I would love to know what this "constant attention" you talk about is.
Occasionally I need to run an "occ" command after an install to fix some indexes, but other than that I don't do much?
There's definitely a problem with the "JavaScript culture". The whole "we're going to make everything as easy as possible" approach has some definite negatives, but when you raise them you get accused of gate-keeping.
But like - yeah, we should be gate-keeping. At least for published and shared code. Having high standards for software development is a good thing. When you don't you get npm.
Python suffers from this a bit as well - but not as bad as the JavaScript ecosystem where relying on a third-party package that does some trivial function is seen as "normal".
