  • The powerful and their goons seem to have forgotten that sure they can roll up anywhere with an army and overpower protesters, but that's not going to solve this. It's just going to start a true resistance.

    There have been few times in history where resistance forces have fought state forces on an open battlefield.

    As seen historically, a typical resistance force will harrass the enemy. Bomb their buildings, stockpiles, and infrastructure. Wait until the state goons are alone, at their homes, at the bar, in a grocery store and then that's when they kill them.

    All sending the national gaurd in to kill protesters will result in is a true resitance forming.

  • Yes they are supposed to be under the direction of each states governor. The president can "federalize" them and then utilize them.

    Another issue is the intent to use them in other states where those states governor's haven't given permission.

    Basically the president can federalize a state's national gaurd and direct them within that state. That's legal, but is supposed to only be used during emergencies. Last time this was done was to prevent violence during the civil rights movement. However, moving them to another state without that state's permission is likely illegal as is using the national gaurd as a long term police force

  • It's all just a distraction. It coincides with him finishing preparations to send the national gaurd to police "sanctuary cities" and enforce immigration laws.

    He's sending the military to police our cities, this is martial law without declaring it. He's even talking about forcibly sending the gaurd from primarily Republican states into primarily Democrat lead states against the will of those governors. This might be the worst constitutional crisis since the Civil War.

    Yet all I'm hearing about these days is all about Musk and Trump fighting.

  • Maybe it would be wise for an instance to incorporate as a non-profit of some kind. I believe a designation exists for "social clubs".

    That way there's less pressure on admins and less worry of facing personal consequences if someone posts something illegal on their instance since then the LLC or local equivalent would be liable.

    I doubt an instance would ever have the funds but it could even theoretically allow for a paid admin.

    I know it sounds like we're reinventing the "big" internet again, but i don't see it being an issue. I don't see a world where lemmy could generate that level of profit. In this case an LLC would be about gaining legal protections only
