    Adverse effects of spinal manipulation: a systematic review Journal of the Royal Society of Medicine

    Abstract

    ObjectiveTo identify adverse effects of spinal manipulation.

    DesignSystematic review of papers published since 2001.

    SettingSix electronic databases.

    Main outcome measuresReports of adverse effects published between January 2001 and June 2006. There were no restrictions according to language of publication or research design of the reports.

    ResultsThe searches identified 32 case reports, four case series, two prospective series, three case-control studies and three surveys. In case reports or case series, more than 200 patients were suspected to have been seriously harmed. The most common serious adverse effects were due to vertebral artery dissections. The two prospective reports suggested that relatively mild adverse effects occur in 30% to 61% of all patients. The case-control studies suggested a causal relationship between spinal manipulation and the adverse effect. The survey data indicated that even serious adverse effects are rarely reported in the medical literature.

    ConclusionsSpinal manipulation, particularly when performed on the upper spine, is frequently associated with mild to moderate adverse effects. It can also result in serious complications such as vertebral artery dissection followed by stroke. Currently, the incidence of such events is not known. In the interest of patient safety we should reconsider our policy towards the routine use of spinal manipulation.

  • In Stephenson's "Diamond Age" novel, even the super poor had basic access to in-home replicators. They were limited to pretty basic items, but they were available.

    With everyone having access to basic goods, the rich people would go to villages of artisans that would hand make items to get unique, one of a kind things, as most crafts were now basically lost skills to most of society.

    Throughout the story, the tech is explored and eventually hacked to upend society by removing limits on what can be generated by the replicator.

  • I do look to have made it to your feed now! It deleted my 3 posts that were photos with short blurbs and kept my news article that is mostly text.

    We rarely get the meme type posts, but if your setup is looking at anything like text:photo ratio, that could be doing it.

    I have most meme communities block myself, so I understand how overtaking they can be to a feed. 😁

    I'm interested in what you're doing because I am interested in news and politics, but it would be nice to get rid of most of the garbage US news and the dupe posts, and let a better variety of news come in. I've gone to keyword blocking, but while I have "Trump" blocked, I'd still like to see things from other countries about their responses to his actions., for example.

  • Lol she was very secretive!

    She had a husband supposedly, but she never really talked about him other than saying he existed. She came over for the paprikash dinner, but he did not. She supposedly came to America as a child. Her and some others were supposed to be here for some sports tournament thing, but whoever had the money in Romania stole it ,so they were stuck here and most of them just stayed.

    We joked in the office she was in some weird kind of mafia situation, and then one day we never saw her again. Her whole situation was mysterious and fascinating from start to finish.

    There are worse spirits I could have encountered and a hungry Romanian one! 😆

  • I had never made crepes until I met a Romanian at work and once she found out I cooked, she encouraged me to make her some things to remind her of home.

    We had clatite first, with nutella and preserves. Now I usually think of crepes as clatite since that was what I got familiar with first. 😄

    We also had Parprikash with mamaliga, and my favorite of the bunch, cozonac! I made 2, one with the nut filling, and I want to say the other was poppy. The nut one I have made a few times since. So tasty, and the rum flavoring makes it so unique!

    She just randomly disappeared on day, so I don't know if she quit or what, but I will always have fond memories of my bried education on Romanian food!

  • I was curious what would happen to the ratio of political posts, specifically Trump/Elon, to other communities, but it feels >= the amount as All on lemmy.world.

    None of my superb owls look to have made it through, but I didn't see them removed in the mod log. We're a pretty large community, so I'd have thought some would have gotten through. I don't recall if I saw stuff from any of the animal comms.

    It looked great and I really wanted to stick with the dev on it once they originally announced they were going to make a Lemmy version, but even after a couple months going between it and some other apps, while it looked much the same as Boost for Reddit, it just didn't feel the same.

  • Boost still looked nice, but the posting UI was terrible for me. I couldn't figure out how to do half the things I wanted to do, and since I became a regular poster using a ton of media and formatting, it was just a no-go.

    The dev has done a lot to help with my specific use cases, and I haven't started since. I gave everything a look around the end of the year to make sure I wasn't missing out on anything, but at this point I don't feel I'm missing a thing from the experience.

    I like the apps are all independent in that we can try one or all and hop between them at will without losing anything.

  • I agree, they definitely have to be passionate about it, and I feel it really shows. Truly shocked it never seems as popular as some others. I've given a number of bug reports and feedback/suggestions and they've all been addressed shockingly quick, and it's fun to think this or that bit is there just because I agreed nicely. 😇

  • I've test driven a majority of the apps at this point, and I think the variety of apps we have to choose from is impressive. They all feel pretty different too, so everyone should be able to find what works for them.

    I think it was Connect I kept installed longest other than Summit and the discontinued Liftoff. I was a huge Boost fan on Reddit, but never jelled with the Lenny implementation.

  • I have a hard time believing Summit Dev has time for a day job! 😂

    I feel every bug is patched same/next day and they keep constantly adding to the feature set. There have been a ton of upgrades this year, and it was perfect to me once they added custom user tags, so now everything is just a bonus.

    I like all their decisions and they take feedback in what works for us, and at this point you can turn almost anything on/off so you get what you want.

    You initially had me scared of starting a 3+ hour video, but from the first few seconds I was invested. This lady is funny!

    I can't do the full thing at once, as entertaining as she's making it, everyone in it is a combo of Musk's "I don't reproduce for love of my partner or child, it's just the world needs my DNA if it's going to survive," the charming dating strategy of Ron Densantis and his "Thigh-land" bit, and wanna be biologists explaining how genes work as accurately as Hideo Kojima writing another Metal Gear script. 🤯

    I hope we get to a future where these people are either forgotten to time completely, or remembered alongside phrenologists and other nonsense peddlers.
