Eh? My Honda Civic just had to have its struts replaced, and that was a $1000 expense which was difficult to cope with and would have been impossible were I not working three different jobs. If I wanted working AC, which I have never had in the vehicle, I’d need to spend like ~2k every year because the model has a defective condenser (and in Trump’s America, warranties are suggestions)
At some point you have to recognize that many Americans cannot afford any vehicle. Unfortunately the U.S. is not designed for people who don’t have vehicles.
While my car was in the shop yesterday, I looked at my options for getting to work, which is about seven miles from my house. There was a bus route, which would have taken at least a full hour compared to my usual 15 minute drive, and there was Uber/lyft, which would have cost me about a third of the money I’d make at work.
If god forbid, something happened to my car, I’d have to take a loan out for something I could not afford, because I have to be able to get to work to survive and pay for the damn car!
Ya know, I’d rather just have plain text website designed for 4 gb or less. I’ve never been in the financial position to have 16 gbs, and it’s far worse now. I just want to not be denied access to text because all websites want to secretly run so much JavaScript and all the other shit. Eventually I’ll give up on the web and just be happy on gopher and Gemini.
They won’t investigate racist or homophobic murders as hate crimes, but teenagers annoying the racketeering scam masquerading as a religion is a “hate crime.”
Let’s not let the UK off the hook - just listened the Jimmy Saville behind the bastards episode, and it seems like certain types of people just get to rape kids.
It’s so weird to me. When I was in second grade, I started trying to read the Bible from cover to cover (made it until Numbers, then I had to start skipping around for my own sanity).
We keep hearing about how this is the most important book to this group of people. They demand it be taught in schools, they demand that we follow its precepts, but they can’t be arsed to read it themselves?
Your internal critic just gets overwhelmed by your internal cheerleader telling you everything you’re doing is awesome and it makes it much easier to just get something onto the page.
The only way I was able to finish my final paper in college was adderal + weed + booze. I used to be completely unable to write anything because the internal critic.
Now, I do 5 minute free writes on paper. Set a timer, no corrections, do not stop writing until the timer goes off, reword the sentence you just wrote if you can’t think of anything else.
Also weed still. Weed lets me write and write, and write…
I’ve heard of vigilante groups doing it for content. There was a case I remember from last year where a man was attacked - the person he was talking to never claimed to be underage, but was a group of people trying to make something for a YouTube channel or something. Didn’t find the article, but the search terms “innocent” “pedobait” and “vigilante” provide enough search results to suggest that it might be a problem.
In Russia, Ghana, and undoubtedly other countries but those are ones I’ve read specific examples of recently - it’s not uncommon for gaybashers to get on apps like Grindr and get entirely away with it. Likely that one of the strats is to claim to be pedobaiting.
It’s just workbooks that you do independently and grade yourself, right? All of that seems like it’s what we’d call low “depth of knowledge.” Multiple choice questions and just memorizing facts.
There is “old earth creationism” which works along those lines. But creationists are “literalists,” which actually means they believe a specific interpretation of the text taught to them by their pastor.
Really, you’d think that most anyone reading the texts would realize that Genesis 1 and 2 were mutually contradicting…
The creative justifications for creationism that try to approach something like science amuse me. Like Kents Hovind and Ham are both too stupid and incurious to be fun; a creationist who’s at least knowledgeable enough to look at “variable c” “”theories”” is entertaining to engage with. That’s part of how I’d justify calling this a “meme” anyway - it’s one of the brighter ones manufacturing a meme to sell to the stupid ones.
Can you give me individual numbers of those incidents versus incidents of violent rape, domestic violence, and statutory rape?
Yes. Bad people exist everywhere.
On the whole, the system is set up to help bad men. There is systemic oppression of women. The fact that the US elected a man who went on tape proudly described sexually assaulting women indicates this. The fact that every woman in my immediate line was teenager impregnated by an adult man. The fact every teenage girl is taught to how to put the keys between her knuckles as she walks somewhere late, the way that packs of adolescent boys or “men in a car” have been a signal of instant threat to all women ever.
I got dog whistled as a teen. I dressed about as strange as I could be I can still go find a Facebook message of relative who confessed things to me. It’s just universal if you grow up female.
Which gender is in prison for violent crimes? What are the leading causes of deaths for pregnant women?
