  • Ok, as I understood it, there is "edible honey" that is really plant-based, and "carrion meat-based protein storage" that kind of works like pollen storage in honeybees nest. TBH, I find pollen more nutritional and tasty than honey. And I know that honey bees are opportunistic carnivores too. These things kind of come together in a story better left untold.

  • Bah, very funny, but this shit is real. I can't find any paid projects lately, going back to C/C++ or TS or even Go and Kotlin feels so disgusting now. I had gigs for last 6 years before 2025 or so but I suppose that data slide with Rust positions is... somewhat misleading.

    AI can't figure out most of Rust tasks indeed, I keep trying to start doing that vibecoding thing and failing, especially in blockchain and baremetal, so what, who needs those anyway? AI does great in areas like JS (as far as I can tell, not worse than regular devs), yet job boards are still full of python and JS positions.

    Nothing can beat Rust at mission critical areas, but people would rather save pennies on development and then have their butts on fire than do things right.

  • It is serious. I have no clear explanation on "why", it's just a taboo, kind of good to know in case you happen to come to the reindeer herding area. I've learned it from basic reindeer herding dog training program orientation; I don't have any reindeer, but I do have reindeer herding dogs. They only allow a few breeds there that naturally know the drill and can survive for hours having fun in savage frost.

    Reindeers are so small IRL, about human-size, incredibly warm to touch, and they make sounds like pigs. They are also somewhat afraid of humans, unlike regular livestock, they usually run away from you same as from a dog and sometimes counterattack the dogs, which is scary. Herders would be happy to tell you about their life and everything, but just don't discuss the head count.

  • Yeah, telling people about what or who they can fall in love with is kind of outdated. Like racial segregation or arranged marriage.

    I find affection with my bonsai plants and yeast colonies, those sure have no pulse.

    I personally find AI tools tiring and disgusting, but after playing with them for some time (which wasnt a lot, I use local deploy and free tier of a big thing), I discovered particular conditions where appropriate application brings me genuine joy, akin to joy from using a good saw or a chisel. I can easily imagine people might really enjoy this stuff.

    The issue with LLMs is not fundamental and internal to concept of AI itself, but it is in economic system that creared and placed them as they are now while burning our planet and society.

  • Also, I must note, that feeling attachment to whatever is fine; guiding your professional behavior on which live humans rely by emotional attachment is just unprofessional. The thing is, capitalism, - at least since Marx's times, because he writes about it - relies heavily on actively reducing professional skills of all its workers; CEOs are not an exception.
