  • That's true. I forgot the threshold how many you had to check for a diagnosis but the more you have, the more severe your addiction is

  • I forget the details but I learned from my sister who worked in a rehab clinic that there are clinical criteria to diagnose addiction:

    1. Taking the substance in larger amounts or for longer than you're meant to
    2. Wanting to cut down or stop using the substance but not managing to
    3. Spending a lot of time getting, using, or recovering from use of the substance
    4. Cravings and urges to use the substance
    5. Not managing to do what you should at work, home, or school because of substance use
    6. Continuing to use, even when it causes problems in relationships
    7. Giving up important social, occupational, or recreational activities because of substance use
    8. Using substances again and again, even when it puts you in danger
    9. Continuing to use, even when you know you have a physical or psychological problem that could have been caused or made worse by the substance
    10. Needing more of the substance to get the effect you want (tolerance)
    11. Development of withdrawal symptoms, which can be relieved by taking more of the substance
  • Hmm

  • NYC and surroundings

  • A little less, less speed means less energy and more time for others to react

  • A hard upper limit would solve a lot of problems in the world. Like once you reach a billion dollars you die immediately.

  • What about the werewolves?

  • Ah, very cool. Maybe I'll visit again once the current presidency ends. If that's ever going to be the case.

  • Noted

  • For the people who need the adrenaline rush we could reduce the driving speed on the Autobahn but add something dangerous to the car. Maybe add a random chance for the airbag to activate or tires to explode.

  • I was a bit excited that the US squirrels are gray and large, we have smaller red ones in Germany.

  • It might be intelligent design but not perfect design. I mean we build stuff with flaws too and consider ourselves intelligent.

If God or some space alien was really good with biotech and had these parts laying around the result is pretty good. Most humans function for several decades before stuff breaks. The earth is also a pretty stable ecosystem.

Both much better than we could build.

  • Ah, right... I forgot the flying things. Yes, for some reason they're also called Schneider

  • We call them "Schneider" (tailor) in Germany. Or at least some creature looking similar to this one.

  • Can't wait to get a seat in one of those huge rockets that explode / burning and fail constantly while flying to low earth orbit. I mean for Mars it only takes like 10 of them to make a super complicated refill maneuver in space, then half a year travel to Mars and then vertical landing on Mars. What could possibly go wrong?

  • I recently went through that scenario with DeepSeek, that was fun
