  • My FIL once bought an expensive coffee machine that worked with beans. But you couldn't just buy a bag of regular beans and refill the machine, no, you needed to buy a special kind of expensive cassette with their brand and their beans that fitted perfectly in the machine. My FIL just sowed off the top of the cassette that came with the purchase and refilled it with regular coffee beans for years.

  • Fuck you, I'm not old! You're lying! I just get shin splints very quickly when I run outside. I don't get it as quickly when I run on a treadmill. Plus, my employer pays more than half of my gym subscription.

  • I imagine wireless headphones are more expensive by definition. So cheap wireless headphones (say 10€) are by definition worse that cheap wired headphones of the same price. I'm willing to pay 50 to 80€ for decent quality, I'm sure that's not the most expensive, but it might be too expensive for some. I've had philips in ear headphones that were just a perfect fit. I sadly lost them recently and now have cheap ones that suck. I'm not much of a sound snob, but these cheap ones have bad sound quality and don't cancel out any outside noise.

  • What's wrong with wireless audio? I've often had the problem that my audio jack was full of dirt so the jackplug couldn't properly connect anymore. I don't have that problem with wireless. Worst problem is that the connection sometimes stutters when I'm walking through the train station during rush hour

  • That's not true. The rethoric is easily explained. They're not women if you can't "grab them by the pussy"

  • Well, that was something that benefitted women, so it's clearly not efficient for any of the grey, white men in this committee

  • You're not OP

  • If you're about to walk into a bar with you head, or like the top of a doorpost or smt. You'll instinctively pull back and avoid the obstacle, inches before it hurts, because your brain notice the hairs on your head moved. That's why men who have recently gone bald, often have bumps and bruises on their head. My bald colleague told me that for him, that was the hardest thing about going bald.

  • I like this sentiment. Hope is also very important in my life. In my darkest times, there was always hope to cling to. It wasn't always realistic and most of it has failed. Some have succeeded though and I am in a much better place now.

However, it is important to learn that failure is a good thing. Society has imprinted in most of us that failure is bad. It is not. Failure is a way to learn. Without failure you cannot learn and you cannot grow.

For this same reason it is perfectly fine for hope to fail. You can learn from that and adjust your hopes and expectations accordingly within the scope of you values.

  • You will put that frown down, or I'll take you to brown town

  • I've recently been reading about the 6 dimensions of societies by Geert Hofstede. I think the voices in you head translate very well to those dimensions. It makes sense that in a more matriarchal society, you'd hear your dead relatives and in a more communal society you'd hear people laughing at you. While in a more patriarchal and individual society like the US the voices are more antagonising.

  • Yes it's not much, but it feels special because it's an international train for which you usually have to pay a supplement.

  • Only if you have a subscription though. Like a businessman, a student card or a "traject vrij abonnement". It doesn't count for individual sold tickets, I guess that also means prepaid ov cards.

  • I sometimes take the ICE from Arnhem to Utrecht. It's special, because it's an international train with sleeping cabins and sometimes even on-board catering. You usually have to pay an extra supplement, but not if you only ride it nationally. This kind of train only stops on three stations in the Netherlands (Armhem, Utrecht, Amsterdam), which makes it more special.

  • Dennis looks like the ripper from Metroid

  • There are always more important things or more immediate concerns. I had my first kid at 23. Plus 2300 is not something I have ever had as spare money.

  • Ich habe es nicht gewust

  • I have been saving up for a motorcycle since I was 20. Now I'm approaching 40 and there's finally some money in that account

  • I never learned it. This is one of the few times in my life where it would've been useful
