  • i honestly regret deleting my xitter account. not because i actually want to use it, no way in hell, but i got curious recently and saw that my username was retaken by someone else, so now any old links there go to them instead of me. would have been much better to delete all of my tweets and change my display name and bio to point people to mastodon. maybe even set up automated tweets telling people switch. even if i got banned for that, that at least prevents anyone else from squatting on my old id. oh well, you live and you learn!

  • was it really never mentioned again? i feel like i remember at least once after that the enterprise was adhereing to a warp speed limit, and in an emergency situation command authorized them to go faster than that. it's been a hot minute since i've seen TNG front to back though

  • back then the saucer section was made of cast iron and needed regular seasoning

  • i came here to say the same thing! if people actually genuinely like the new reddit ui, those people might just want and need different things out of a website than we do, and trying to onboard them might be a fool's errand. not to be a gatekeeper, i'd love if everyone quit the corporate web, but a lot of the things people complain about here like the ui and the decentrilization are why i'm here (in my case mbin) and not there to begin with

same thing with mastodon, people still rail against it's ui but the ui was a big reason i even made a mastodon long before twitter was bought out, back when they first tried to phase out the chronological timeline

  • common misconception, actually that song is about me

  • yeah but where's the pun in that

  • what do we call this scandal? seagate? seagate...gate?

  • i wish we got to spend more time with Captain Georgiou. she saw potential in Michael when no one else did, but didn't see the disrepency between what she was and could be. she paid the ultimate price for making her the xo, and it arguably led to a quadrant wide war. that's interesting! the Emperor always felt to me like an excuse to reuse an actor and just came across like more noise in a season that already had too many anttagonists.

  • it's worth bearing in mind that comparing audacity and reaper is like comparing notepad++ to libreoffice- in many cases libreoffice is a much more robust program but in others all the extra bells and whistles are bloat. you wouldn't want to program in libreoffice!

that said audacity has some wildly bizzare design, and any forks are either even worse with this or incredibly unstable, so audacity being terrible isn't wrong sadly

  • next you're gonna tell me he never finished high school!

  • getting from there to here...

  • we watching the Picard S3 finale when they're back on the D (or E?)

  • we think about people 100 or 500 years ago and it seems absurd just how little they knew about health and the body, but hopefully we'll look the same to our descendants in as many years

  • not only are they still at it but they're firmly in the "kicking ass" column while their remaining contemporaries are increasingly being filed under "no really it's ok you can retire now please" category

  • There must be some kind of way out of here...

  • "jaws" is an equivalent of that for a metro NY accent. i could never hear my own accent until someone had me say it and really listen for it. now if you'll excuse me i need to walk my dawg to the cawfee shop

  • i use mobile sites whenever possible, but if it's something i use often and the app is more convient i'll relent. looking at my home screen it's all mostly things that don't have a web equivalent. i'll use an app for things that i WANT notifications for, so really only mastodon and email. for mbin specifically i use the PWA because i'm not sure if any kbin/lemmy/whatever apps work with it, and the user CSS themes are pretty neat

  • i remember you used to be able to download voice packs for one of the common map apps (maybe Waze?) but instead of saying the road names it just gave simple commands like turn left and turn right. i betcha you could rip all of those straight from episodes without needing to synthesize anything new

  • my favorites are Christmas Wrapping, Last Christmas (never got the hate!) and basically everything off of the Phil Spector and Mannheim Steamroller records. (edit: and Brian Setzer! how could i forget!) the only ones i really dislike are All I Want For Christmas Is You and any time someone covers and upbeat christmas song as an acoustic ballad- people think that's an easy way to make something emotional and meaningful but it actually takes a lot of skill to pull of, and i've yet to hear anyone pull it off with a Christmas song!
