  • I kept getting shadow banned constantly. My comments ending up with 1 view no up or down votes. For completely arbitrary reasons as well. And I got completely banned from a few communities by accidentally using extremist terminology (?).

And yes I don't doubt they removed it for a reason, it makes it a much less friendly place. Like you're putting down and directly affecting the other person rather than just disagreeing. It's hard to explain.

  • Of course, but if more socialist countries struggle to justify increasing the funding of the already massive cost of healthcare, I doubt that the states would manage a well funded one. In fact it may even be sabotaged. But theoretically if it had good funding then yes most of those problems go away.

  • It does feel like a cult doesn't it? Like the church of the steel God or something. Silicon valley practically performing summoning rituals on their PC's to try and create sentience ASAP

  • Lemmy has this feature which is really nice... -20 points doesn't show +20 and -40. It mentally feels a lot better to know that 20 people agreed with you even if more people disagreed

  • I think initially there'd be a huge spike of people going to the doctor for problems they've just been living with because they can't get it looked at. The healthcare system would get hugely overwhelmed because I'm sure they wouldn't prepare properly for this.

Long term, wait times would be months to years like in the UK. The system would likely never catch up. You'd probably end up with a private expensive sector due to the huge demand* to "skip the queue", and a public sector if you're willing to wait 2 years. Oh look, it's turned into Australia's system.

We don't really need speculation at this point because we already know what the pros and cons are. There would be huge economic and health benefits from health problems being prevented rather than letting them get bad. But people would go to hospital for a common cold and scraped knee or drug seeking behaviour, wasting precious healthcare resources. The costs would be astronomical, subsidised by the private sector. Etc.

  • In the app I use I can "tag" people's usernames and keep track of them across posts. It's interesting to bump into "angry cyclist" being aggressive again about a completely random topic. It kind of puts it into perspective that it might just be how this person sees the world, especially if they're very active and keep showing up. It feels very much like older forums where the same people keep turning up, which is something I didn't realise I missed.

  • I had to open it, then hold tap on the image and click "play animation", so it's definitely app dependant

  • Is this A.I. generated?

  • Yeah exactly. I set up Zorin OS for my family who are not tech savvy at all. It was a bit different at first but they said they felt much "calmer" using Linux. Modern Windows feels like trying to read an article online or watch a YouTube video without an ad blocker.

  • It's funny how we outsourced everything to make it cheaper but that backfired hard

  • I liked the veggie burger when it existed. But nowadays any burger you get will look like it was prepared with a blindfold and briefly sat on. Like imagine a dry patty on a flat greasy bun, decorated with a single pickle, and spattered with cum mayonnaise.

Back when I was younger and willing to inflict fast food on my digestive system, I went to Carl's Jr if I did want a burger. Similar price and actually a decent meal. Plus the chicken nuggets are star shaped and the kids loved that. I'm curious if there's a similar experience in the states? All I know is if I visit North America I want to try an "In & Out Burger", I've heard they're good.

  • It seems to me

    hope the technology

    will speed up the "wee"

    poverty and displacees

to but a generation or three

  • It's just corporate doublespeak messing with your head. The normal person translation is:

oh fuck something might have happened. But we don't want shareholders to panic. Uhh, so everyone, please pretend everything is fine.

  • I wonder if Google Translate is using A.I. behind the hood now? I see no other reason that would cause fluctuating results

  • Yes monogamous people would probably be offended. Think of it this way; to monogamous people, polyamory is functionally cheating, so you're indirectly accusing them of being a cheater with your question. It's not my fault, this is just the reality.

The solution is so extremely simple you'll laugh. Instead of asking if they're poly, ask people if they're monogamous. Other monogamous people will be like, yeah of course aren't you? Poly people will say no without being offended.

  • My ex went to McDonald's when we went traveling overseas (yes really), so I can say I've (unfortunately) had McDonald's in Australia, Paris, Hong Kong, and Japan.

Australia was the worst. Paris and Hong Kong were ok, but the menu was weird. Japan was actually good. Though... maybe it was skill issue, but the menu was completely impossible. So I ended up just begging the cashier for a ham-bo-ga, please God just any hamboga I'm so hungry.

  • Heat pumps mentioned, Technology Connections fan spotted

  • My favourite part is when your style or the auto formatter changes over time and you have to decide between:

    • running the auto formatter on 200,000 12 year old code files
    • doing them one by one
    • formatting them when you have to change that file
    • or ignoring all the warnings forever (it's this one, this is what you do)

Plus it doesn't fix the problem of auto formatters writing ugly code. You can't easily tell the auto formatter that early returns can be bracketless for brevity, but nothing else can be. Unless you add a comment like \\ ignore-rule-2753674 which makes me want to throw up

  • Oh that's interesting. Maybe I'll try a dietician instead, I just assumed doctors know all about diabetes stuff...

What happened with Keto was, I felt like I was eating too much fat per day. I felt greasy and horrible and disgusting and heavy, and my LDL cholesterol went even worse (6.3–7.8).

I tried fixing it by eating mostly protein and low fat instead, but considering I can't eat much volume per day, that just ended up with me eating almost nothing and things went real bad from there. I couldn't get out of bed for days at a time levels of fatigue. So I slowly added back in wholemeal carbs and some fat, and at least now I know what types of carbs cause spikes.

The reason I can't eat much is I have erosion in my esophagus, stomach, and intestines from GERD acid reflux (confirmed via endoscopy). I've been on strong acid suppressants for a while but it seems like the "damage is done" so to speak from decades of acid splashing all over the place, and it's not healing. At least I don't wake up with a melting throat anymore so I'll take that.

I'm on statins recently to try and reduce my LDL. The first type I tried gave me severe full body cramps so hopefully this type is better. And this is only a small part of my medical problems. Before we get into POTS, CFS, hEDS, MCAS, chronic migraines, arthritis, hormone problems, heart problems, neuropathy... I always forget most of my issues as well I can't keep track of them all. I take more than 10 pills per day to manage all that.

I just accepted I'm going to die sometime soon based on this trajectory.

I've been trying to increase my walking per day because I heard walking is a great way to reduce diabetes and heart attack risk. I'm up to 15 minutes walk per day and some sneaky resistance training, which knocks me out for the rest of the day, but it makes me feel like I'm doing something at least.

Basically my body is failing in a million different ways at once at this point. If I only had one problem it would be easy to fix, but everything interacts and compounds the issue. Thanks for listening and trying to help by the way, you're a kind person.
