  • Most of the time, voice is on a specific channel, and you can just turn up that channel, or turn down the others. It's like turning down the base in an equaliser, you can hear the other stuff better. So it does actually fix it…

That's why on Blu Ray cases, you see for example, "Dolby Digital 5.1"; it means there's 5.1 different audio tracks you can play with. That's the way it was mixed and intended to be listened to. Just ignore the .1 for now, it's not super important. You can buy a single 5.1 sound bar for pretty cheap that does the job. You don't really need 5 whole separate speakers.

Most TVs have speakers in the back, so you're actually listening to an echo of the sound, which muffles it a lot. If you only have a 1 speaker system, your TV also smooshes them all together as best as it can, which is sometimes badly.

I simplified a lot but hopefully this strikes a balance of not too complicated of an answer, while also not upsetting the smart people who know the details.

  • Jesus… this is actually 1984 territory now. We all have "TV's" (monitors) that actually monitor us. Yuck

  • I always thought of it like, we're all comfy and safe social signal. It makes you feel a bit sleepy as well, and it's contagious because it makes other people want to return the signal. That's just my theory though. A personal theory!

  • I believe so. If you zoom in on the letters, it's inconsistent with the capital R font between posters, which can't really be explained by the angle, it's a bit thinner or thicker in places:

Also, if you adjust for the angle of the posters, it's not done a good job of keeping the face and text consistent at that angle. In these next photos I've edited the image to account for perspective so it's as if the left and right closest posters are "face on".

It's getting hard to tell nowadays though, I could be wrong but I'm voting this is 80% likelihood of being A.I.

  • It's really not obvious, and I still don't fully understand what you're actually trying to say. My comment was pointing out that it's unlikely they'll use those freed resources to hire more nurses, in response to other comments pointing out the nursing crisis. I'm guessing you disagree with me, and are expressing it in a roundabout way.

Of course everyone who disagrees with you is automatically a troll.

  • I made the mistake of using Google Photos before they became evil, and now I have a huge job on my to-do list to migrate all those photos

    (—_—;)

  • I wasn't referring to your comment in that part, and I'm definitely not annoyed. Some people get a bit judgemental about personal habits and I was just poking fun at those people

  • That makes sense. I can't imagine what kind of stuff you'd back up that has so much storage needs though. My use case is I have 1 main PC at all times, I don't even have 2 computers, and my phone. I want everything locally on my PC in case DropBox dies, and I want it on the cloud in case my PC dies. I only really use like 10GB of storage, and only that much because I put all my music on there too

  • Ok, so one question equals two things being mutually exclusive? This has to be the laziest attempt to start an argument I've seen on Lemmy so far

  • There's no problem with TV in bedroom. I used to fall asleep to SpongeBob and Nickelodeon reruns, it kept me sane through school and was the only way I could sleep. I don't do it nowadays, my life is much calmer and quieter now…

But I bet the same people saying they don't believe in TV in bedroom, are scrolling their phone 3 inches from their nose, or watching YouTube on their iPad every night 😂

  • What's it like using a projector? Can you just like, watch YouTube or anything on it? Is it good?

  • I don't get your point. There was like 8 things in my comment, which ones were not mutually exclusive?

  • Yesss… we could hire more nurses with the time and money savings of A.I., but instead let's just fire them and make more money. Doesn't this kind of prove that the nursing shortage is manufactured? They had the option here to help improve the situation but deliberately chose profits every time

  • Honestly tho how the fudge is it 2°C (35°F) outside? I'm not designed for this kind of weather, and it's been sub-10 for what feels like ages now. Our Australian jackets are designed for mildly stiff breezes, not actual coldness

  • Some people see the scale differently, as you said, like a 10 is an impossible goal and they rate based on how close they got. I don't use it that way personally, though.

  • I had some issues, so I got it tested, and it turns out I'm 0.1 above the threshold for men to get HRT. The absolute lowest "normal" range for men, so they can't legally help me 😂

For some reason my beard is epic though. Shame I hate having a beard, was planning to get it lasered off. The cosmetic surgeon looked like I suggested killing a puppy and tried to talk me out of it. It's my face, I don't care if everyone else likes it prickly and uncomfortable

  • What's worse than div soup? Table ware.
