Disney's The Black Cauldron. Apparently it was so bad it like...almost killed off Disney animation for good? But I loved that shit as a kid. No idea why we had it, either. I was born almost a decade after it came out. Eilonwy deserves her place with the Disney Princesses, damn it!
There's no solution or implementation, and the law in place actually forbids social media from requiring ID as the means of age verification. But who knows what it'll end up actually looking like, because even the politicians didn't bother figuring that out before passing the law in under a week.
Google+ was better. The concept of "circles" being the primary way of interacting with people was ingenious and far better represents how real people interact. My fencing friends are not the same as my RPG friends who are not the same as my family.
Facebook adopted this with "lists", but they're not treated as the core part of the experience that G+'s Circles were, so they don't get used.
enforcement is up to the ag, so yea. they could just ‘ignore’ the law.
In practice, there's no real mechanism to force it (especially if Congress is unwilling to impeach & convict). But legally speaking, the Take Care clause of the constitution obligates the President (through his executive) to enforce all laws passed by Congress. Ignoring it would be unconstitutional.
No one is enforcing it, it’s a play by TikTok. TikTok did it voluntarily
Yup. In fact, Biden had specifically said he will not enforce the ban.
Which, incidentally...might be the same thing Trump does to "unban TikTok" once he takes office. Which is bizarre, on both sides. Like...that's literally not legal for a president to do. They can't legally just ignore an Act of Congress.
Not that the law matters in America anymore. The Supreme Court has pretty definitively seen to that.
Gods that was a good season. Unfortunately it was pretty obvious pretty early on in this episode what the result would be, but there was just enough doubt to keep the suspense. And even with a known outcome, this rule set made it interesting to see the process of how they got there.
It certainly does a really good job of promoting the physical product. I hope they can come out with a digital version of it, even if that's only a PDF you can print and cut yourself. Or that they can at least get the shipping costs to Europe and Australia down somewhere reasonable. To play it myself, especially with the new 50c public transport fares my state brought in last year, would be incredible.
To be honest I don't know anything about Bush Sr. He's before my time and doesn't have as strong a personality to get in by cultural osmosis the way Clinton (who was the first US president I was alive for, but when I was far too young to have any memories of it) does.
That said, the comment above said the last 30 years. That means Bush Sr isn't in the running, unless I've miscalculated something.
Facebook should not be making content moderation decisions based on machine translations. They should be paying actual humans who can both speak the language and understand the cultural context of the posts. Yes, that's going to cost them more. They shouldn't be allowed to operate if they don't do it.
I don’t mean the drinking needs to be done immediately, just that the purchase must happen immediately.
Oh fair enough. But I still disagree. That just doesn't seem very in line with how most of the curses we've seen so far seem to work.
he will pretty much have to be in his hiding spot when drinking
Hmm. Yeah that raises a pretty good point. Especially since this season's rules are meant for the public, anything involving alcohol could quickly get very tricky. Where I live, for example, alcohol is not allowed to be drunk in most public places. So unless you can get to an actual pub (not too hard in most places, but a few of the more remote places might be tricky), or to a bottle-o and then to a licensed location (of which there are, I think, only 2 or 3 public parks)
The casting cost could be “your future fellow seeker will perhaps slow you down”. That would motivate the card being played as early as possible instead of hoarding curses and then not get to play them…
I like the idea of something that encourages early use of the curses. But I'm not sure this is it. For starters, I just don't think the intoxication caused by 2 drinks is enough of a hindrance to be worth considering. But more critically, from a game design perspective, I think targeting one specific seeker with a curse assuming the rotation of 3 hiders in the broadcast version of the game, with the idea that a curse's cost could be bad for the current hider because...it might make things worse for them after they've been found, feels quite clumsy and not in keeping with the usually very good design of the rest of the game.
Sam and Adam could have walked right past him if not for the status LED in the microphone.
Yeah that but really stuck out to me in that episode. Especially since this season is being released to the public, which presumably means many people may play the game without having such an obvious indicator.
Ben's +13hrs run will be hard to beat, in a single day
IIRC an earlier episode of the Layover podcast mentioned that the last day is allowed to go indefinitely, so the only issue will be getting caught, not running against the end of the game.
I'm more interested in seeing if this will be the first jetlag, where Ben doesn't get drunk
Are you sure? I can't remember exactly which, but I'm sure there have been multiple seasons before where he didn't.
Curse of the drunk seeker:
Based on what I've noticed of this game so far, I would amend it so that having the drinks is required before asking another question, not something that must be done immediately. I'd also reduce it to 2 standards that must be drunk by one person, to keep the game relatively safe and fun.
It also needs a casting cost. I suggest the hider having to drink the same.
Not a Nebula-exclusive video, or even Nebula-first. (Here's the YouTube link.) But one that I thought was so powerful and important for people to know, I thought it worth sharing regardless.
And that series just recently got a finale, too.
