I have a guess that it was added as a workaround the moment Rust was marketed as a general C++ replacement, and as people started to realize overusing the FP paradigm also has its downsides, it's not unique to OOP.
I'm a somewhat old timer on the internet, I know free speech absolutists like Musk way too well. Free speech absolutism often includes "legalizing all recordings of crimes", and not understanding why non-consensual porn is bad, thus a lot of them support real CSAM. They are also the reason why free speech nowadays has a bad name, as it mainly was for privileged people and their supporters, and often included "negative freedoms", because criticism might force someone to self-censor, but of course not for them.
It was meant for economic stuff. Same with how they pursued "economic individualism" rather than "self expression", even if some young conservatives think otherwise.
I saw great potential in streaming. Then physical media started to evaporate. Then everyone started to have their own streaming platform. Then came the ads.
By the time I could have afforded them, it got enshittified. Back to swashbuckling I guess.
Call me tinfoil hats, but likely it was done to chip regulations away. The techbros behind AI think any regulation is unneeded, because people are all rational actors, and bad stuff will be just boycotted, except they want to make boycotts illegal (today I'm also getting called "picky" for not liking Windows, etc.).
They know the moment Win10ESU ends, the year of the Linux Desktop begins. It's already better for the most part, if only we had better debugging tools for Linux (GDB needs an actual GUI so badly, not just hack jobs on top of the CLI, often even DAB solutions are a bit underbaked).
Deskilling, high water usage that often disrupts drought-prone areas, power usage, slop on the internet, designed to be as addictive as possible, etc..
