  • There are low sugar sports drinks. Most of the electrolytes they're advertising is just salt. Your body needs salt to function. You lose salt when you sweat.

    My doctor told me I come literally just put some table salt in water and it would do just as well as any sports drink, sugar or no.

    I work in a physical environment and they hand out electrolyte packets and Gatorade like candy when it gets hot.

  • I've read all of them, though not very closely. Unless it was one of a handful of important characters by the 4th book I had absolutely no clue who anybody was. Names kept getting dropped like I'm supposed to know who this person is but there are so goddamn many it's impossible to keep track.

    The last two books are like 3/4s just moving people around, and literally everything interesting that happens happens in the last 250-300 pages or so.

  • Movies are being made to mitigate risk. Take a polar thing and just do that again, that'll suck people in right???

    God forbid they do something new and interesting with the material, that can't possibly work.

    The only time I can think of where a remake ended up working out was with the recent planet of the apes movies. Where, you know, they took the premise and did something new and interesting with it. But even THEN, there was a completely different remake that failed to innovate outside of the last few minutes and those were confusing are best.

  • Some of the criticism is perfectly valid, frankly. I'm hyped for EVs but there's a lot of work to be done before they're really competitive. Glossing over glaring issues isn't doing anyone any favors.

    Aging wheels did a great video on the charging station problem. He drove a Polaris and a Tesla on the same route and demonstrated really well how unreliable charging stations are, unless you have a Tesla. This guy loves electric cars and has been reluctant to actually recommend any.

    That problem is going to be addressed as American manufacturers adopt Tesla as a standard, but that won't happen for two model years at least.

    And in the long run, they won't address climate change in any meaningful way either. We've just exchanged one resource disaster for another, and there's far less rare earth minerals than there is oil. And we'll still need oil. The only way we're doing that is by massively overhauling every city and going away from any individualized transportation larger than a bike.

  • There's a community that builds 3d printed guns, and those don't last very long either. They're not printing barrels, they're just printing the trigger housing and grip. They go out and buy the dangerous bits.

    This is all a bit pointless.

    Even more pointless when you consider that once you have a 3d printer, you can make a lot of the components for a second 3d printer, and go out and buy the other parts, without ever buying a 3d printer. Now you have two ghost gun machines!! Oh the horror.
